Piston is a component of reciprocating engines, reciprocating pumps, gas compressors and pneumatic cylinders among other similar mechanisms. In an engine, its purpose is to transfer force from expanding gas in the cylinder to the crankshaft via a piston rod and\/or connecting rod. Here the piston is designed, analyzed and the manufacturing process has been studied.\r\n\r\nPiston temperature has considerable influence on efficiency, emission, performance of the SI engine. Purpose of the investigation is measurement of piston transient temperature at several points on the piston, from cold start to steady condition and comparison with the results of finite element analysis.\r\nIn this project the piston is modeled and assembled with the help of CATIA software and the component is meshed and analysis is done in ANSYS software and the thermal and static behavior is studied and the results are tabulated. The various stresses acting on the piston under various loading conditions has been studied.\r\n\r\nIn the preset thesis work has been taken up on the following aspects to cover the research gaps and to present the results based on the systematic studies :\r\n1) Temperature distribution and heat flow through the piston of an engine.\r\n2) FEA analysis of the piston to measure temperature at the points where it is not possible to\u00a0find out practically and to observe the heat flow inside the piston.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nThe modern trend is to develop IC Engine of increased power capacity. One of the design criteria is the endeavor to reduce the structures weight and thus to reduce fuel consumption. This has\u00a0been made possible by improved engine design. These improvements include increased use of lightweight materials, such as advanced ultra-high tensile strength steels, aluminum and magnesium\u00a0alloys, polymers, and carbon-fiber reinforced composite materials. The integration of lighter weight\u00a0materials is especially important if more complex parts can be manufactured as a single unit. In the\u00a0next 10\u201320 years, an additional 20\u201340% reduction in overall weight, without sacrificing safety,\u00a0seems to be possible. Cuddy et al (1997) have reported that for every 10% weight reduction of the\u00a0vehicle, an improvement in fuel consumption of 6\u20138% is expected. Improved engine design requires\u00a0optimized engine components. Therefore sophisticated tools are needed to analyze engine\u00a0components. Engine piston is one of the most analyzed components among all automotive or other\r\nindustry field components. If the chassis remains fairly steady then the tyres are better able to follow road contours automatically. While springs do an excellent job of smoothing over bumps, they will keep bouncing once started. In other words, the chassis continues swaying and the tyres keep hopping long after the vehicle strikes a bump. Left uncontrolled, springs give an uncomfortable ride with very poor tyre to road contact. To control this undesirable behavior, a shock absorber keeps the spring from over reacting to every bump or dips and not only prevents but also balances excess movement of the tyre and chassis. Springs are durable items and are easily inspected. If the ride height of a vehicle has decreased excessively or a coil\/leaf has broken it is advisable to replace the springs in axle sets. Consumers also often change springs to alter their vehicle's ride and handling characteristics. Spring problems are generally easy to identify.\r\n\r\n\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nThe most common method for checking the performance of shock absorbers is for the owner or mechanic to jump up and down on the car bumper and observe whether or not the car motion appears to be adequately damped. When the shocks are completely worn out, it is clear that the damping is inadequate, however by the time the wear is readily observable, the car owner has been driving for an\u00a0extended period of time with bad shocks. By then the owner has learned to hate his vehicle, the tyres have been abnormally worn, and the road ability has deteriorated to the point that he or she has been driving dangerously all over the road.\r\nMain reason for replacement of shock absorber (spring) is physical damage. Spring stiffness must be checked before replacement. This test rig will give the force applied on spring. With the help of force and deflection produced , we can calculate stiffness of spring. By varying the force , we can obtain corresponding deflections . We are going to study the suspension characteristics of spring by\u00a0graphical method.\r\n\r\n\r\nWORKING PRINCIPLE\r\nThe working of hydraulic stiffness testing machine is based on Pascal\u2019s law which states that \u201cPRESSURE APPLIED AT ANY POINT ON ANY CONFINED LIQUID IS TRANSMITTED EQUALLY TO ALL OTHER POINTS\u201d This principle is same as that used in hydraulic press.\r\nThe pressure is transmitted from hydraulic cylinder to load cell by application of a lever. When force is applied by lever, it gets multiplied to many times and that multiplied force acts on the plunger. Due to this force the plunger compresses the liquid. The liquid will be pressurized as it is confined between plunger and piston. This pressure in liquid is transmitted by liquid to piston. As the piston is having larger area than plunger, the force delivered by piston and piston rod is much larger then force acting on the plunger. The piston rod moves outwards and presses the spring placed between the hydraulic cylinder and load cell.When the release knob is opened the pressurized liquid gets escaped into the reservoir and due to the spring action of retracting spring the piston is brought backward.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nDESIGN AND FABRICATION OF HYDRAULIC SPRING STIFFNESS TESTING MACHINE\r\n\r\n\r\nAdvantages:\u00a0\r\n1. In our country, extreme reliance to non-renewable resources and production of pollutions in metropolises has encouraged the researchers and officials to find a renewable replacement, which is dependent on the construction and designing of wind turbines through the available technologies.\r\n\r\n\r\nDESIGN AND FABRICATION OF EFFICIENCY INCREASED ADVANCED WIND TURBINE SYSTEM\u00a0\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nCurrently two kinds of wind turbines, among different designs considered by the designers, are horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) and vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT), used mainly to generate power. In comparison, each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. Some advantages of vertical axis turbine are easy designing and construction, lower cost, no need to rotor yaw mechanism (Yaw) to find that wind direction and sound pollution and ecosystem damage reduction. Among its disadvantage are less efficiency, power production with higher fluctuation, lower speed of the blades and lower energy yield. However, there are also downfalls to the VAWM.
