accurate and precise operation. The project combines the advantages of both hydraulics and pneumatics, thus eliminating the drawbacks that may be associated with the use of fluid power Also the air-to-hydraulic pressure booster amplifiers the force with which the vice grips the workpiece. The highlights of this project are that it is very economical, accurate, and easy to operate and has wide variety of applications.\r\n\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\n\r\nThis project deals with the operations of a machine vice using fluid power. Fluid power enables us to operate the vice with ease, accuracy, safety and for high pressure operations. The advantages of hydraulics and pneumatics are merged in such a manner in this project so as to completely eliminate any disadvantage that may be associated with the use of fluid power. The presence of an air-to-hydraulic pressure boaster in this hydro pneumatic vice enables multiplication of force. A small pneumatic pressure is utilized to generate a high hydraulic fluid pressure which bears on a hydraulic actuator. Also the use of standard components and materials has lead to the considerable reduction in\r\nfabrication cost.\r\n\r\n\r\nHYDRO-PNEUMATIC VICE WITH PRESSURE BOOSTER\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAIR-TO-HYDRAULIC PRESSURE BOOSTER\r\n\r\nThe air \u2013 to \u2013 hydraulic pressure booster works on the basis of PASCALS\u2019S LAW.\r\n\r\nPascal\u2019s Law:\r\n\r\n\r\nThe pressure applied to a confined fluid is transmitted undiminished in all directions. Let us assume that a 10 square inch air piston is subjected to 100 psi air pressure. This pressure produces 1000 lb force on the hydraulic cylinder piston. Thus if the area of the hydraulic piston is 1 square inch, the hydraulic discharge oil pressure will be 1000 psi. The pneumatic actuator is a single acting cylinder and the compressed air extends the piston. The piston rod enters the hydraulic Tank filled with hydraulic oil and pressurises the hydraulic fluid. Thus the hydraulic fluid enters the delivery pipe through a filter arrangement. The pressurised fluid is made to act on a hydraulic cylinder placed on a table arrangement. The hydraulic fluid then extends the hydraulic piston. The end of the piston rod is threaded and the movable jaw of the machine vice is connected to it. Thus the movable jaw extends along with the piston rod and grips the workpiece against the fixed jaw placed diametrically opposite to it.\r\n\r\nReleasing the work piece:\r\n\r\nThe operation of hand lever activates the spring centered two ways, two positions, direction control valve in the hydraulic circuit. Also, the push button direction control valve in the pneumatic circuit is operated simultaneously. This exhausts the air in the pneumatic cylinder, thus retracting the pneumatic piston. At the same time, hydraulic fluid flows back to the hydraulic tank. Hence the single acting hydraulic cylinder retracts the hydraulic piston thereby releasing the workpiece.\r\n\r\nAPPLICATIONS\r\n\r\n1. To hold the job rigidly while machining.\r\n2. For quick clamping and unclamping of the job.\r\n\r\nADVANTAGES\r\n\r\n1. Idle time of the machine is reduced.\r\n2. It works in the principle or eccentric cam mechanism. The main features of the cam vice are promotes mass production, can hold irregular jobs, more rigidity, reduce fatigue, etc. Cam was designed to hold the job at high pressure. The other parts were designed to hold the job in rigid condition. Cam vice is suitable for mass production. It is possible to hold irregular components also, and similar components can be very quickly.\r\n\r\n\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nCam vice is one of the clamping devices used to hold the job in rigid condition. Cam vice is operated by eccentric cam mechanism. There is a cam lever. The job can be held tightly in between the jaw. In this, first the job is place in between jaws, and movable jaw is adjusted by adjusting the screw rod to maintain according to the eccentricity of the cam with cam profile. After that, cam lever at the top is operated so that the job is held tightly in the fixture.\r\n\r\n\r\nPROJECT ON DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF CAM VICE\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThis type of fixture is useful for mass production where only similar size of jobs is to be held. It reduces operator\u2019s fatigue and also reduces stetting time and cost of production.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nDESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT\r\n1. CAM\r\nA cam is a projecting part of a rotating wheel or shaft that strikes a lever at one or more points on its circular path. The cam can be a simple tooth, as is used to deliver pulses of power to a steam hammer, for example, or an eccentric disc or other shape that produces a smooth reciprocating (back and forth) motion in the follower which is a lever making contact with the cam.\r\nThe reason the cam acts as a lever is because the hole is not directly in the centre, therefore moving the cam rather than just spinning. On the other hand, some cams are made with a hole exactly in the centre and their sides act as cams to move the levers touching them to move up and down or to go back and forth.\r\n\r\n2. LEAD SCREW\r\nA lead screw also known as a power screw or translation screw, is a screw designed to translate radial motion into linear motion. Common applications are machine slides (such as in machine tools), vises, presses, and jacks.\r\n\r\nA lead screw nut and screw mate with rubbing surfaces, and consequently they have a relatively high friction and stiction compared to mechanical parts which mate with rolling surfaces and bearings. Their efficiency is typically between 25 and 70%, with higher pitch screws tending to be more efficient. A higher performing, and more expensive, alternative is the ball screw.\r\n\r\nThe high internal friction means that leadscrew systems are not usually capable of continuous operation at high speed, as they will overheat. Due to inherently high stiction, the typical screw is self-locking (i.e. when stopped, a linear force on the nut will not apply a torque to the screw) and are often used in applications where backdriving is unacceptable, like holding vertical loads or in hand cranked machine tools.\r\n\r\nA lead screw will back drive. A leadscrew's tendency to backdrive depends on its thread helix angle, coefficient of friction of the interface of the components (screw\/nut) and the included angle of the thread form. In general, a steel acme thread and bronze nut will back drive when the helix angle of the thread is greater than 20\u00b0.\r\n3. FRAME STAND\r\nFrame stand in this device is made up of combination of sheet metal or flat rods welded together. The frame stand is used to hold the fixed jaw, moving jaw, and lever, lead screw, handle and cam arrangements in this device.\r\n4. LEVER\u00a0\r\nThe lever is used to lock and unlock the cam arrangements in this device. The liver is an easily operateable device in this equipment.\r\n\r\n5. HANDLE\r\n\r\nThe handle is used to adjust operate the lead screw in this equipment. The handle is fixed one corner of the lead screw.\r\n\r\n6. FIXED JAW AND MOVING JAW\r\n\r\nThe fixed jaw is stable; the jaw is mounted on the frame stand in this equipment.\r\n\r\nThe moving jaw is easily adjustable by the lead screw arrangement. We can easily move the moving jaw on this equipment by rotating the lead screw by handle and operating the lever in cam arrangement.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWORKING PRINCIPLE\r\n\r\nThe cam vice consists of fixed jaw, moving jaw, lever, lead screw, handle, cam mechanism and frame stand. The fixed jaw is fixed on the frame. The moving jaw is arranged parallel through the fixed jaw. The cam arrangement is placed before the moving jaw. The cam arrangement consists of lever. The after the cam arrangement the lead screw is arranged. The lead screw is used to adjust the cam arrangement in the equipment. The main purpose of the cam vice is used to clamp and unclamp the same size specimens on it. This vice is used in mass production. The specimen is placed between the fixed jaw and moving jaw, and then the cam lever is operated by manually. The specimen is clamped at a perfect stage, and then the lead screw is used to fit the correct area in the cam arrangement. The piston is reciprocated with the help of a pneumatic cylinder and solenoid valve. There are two cylinders are used in this project, one for pneumatic cylinder and another one for hydraulic cylinder. The output quantity of the water is varied by the timing control unit.\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nA pump is a Mechanical device which converts mechanical energy into hydraulic energy. This pump is classified into two types;\r\n\r\ni. Positive Displacement and\r\nii. Non-Positive Displacement pump\r\n\r\nIn positive displacement pump is the one, in which the liquid is transferred positively from one stage to another stage by the to and fro motion of the plunger or piston of the pump.\r\n\r\nIn non-positive displacement pump the liquid is transferred by the centrifugal force. This force is cause due to the rotary movement of an impeller. In this, our project, pneumatic water pump is of positive displacement pump. The salient features of a pneumatic water pump have been retained in our project model and this has been achieved with great care.\r\n\r\nDue to high precision work involved in producing pneumatic water pump besides higher cost these pumps are not widely manufactured by most of the industries. The very name itself indicates that it works with the help of a piston. This piston is reciprocated with the help of a solenoid valve and electronic timing control unit.\r\nWORKING PRINCIPLE\r\nInitially starting with air compresses, its function is to compress air from a low inlet pressure (usually atmospheric) to a higher pressure level. This is an accomplished by reducing the volume of the air. Air compressors are generally positive displacement units and are either of the reciprocating piston type or the rotary screw or rotary vane types. The air compressor used here is a typically small sized, two-stage compressor unit. It also consists of a compressed air tank, electric rotor and pulley drive, pressure controls and instruments for quick hook up and use. The compressor is driver by a 10HP motor and designed to operate in 145 \u2013 175 PSI range. If the pressure exceeds the designed pressure of the receiver a release value provided releases the excesses air and thus stays a head of any hazards to take place.\r\n\r\n\r\nAutomatic Pneumatic Water Pumping System\r\n\r\nThe stored air from compressor is passed through an air fitter where the compressed air is filtered from the fine dust particles. However, before the suction of air into compressor a filter process take place, but not sufficient to operate in the circuit here the filter is used. Then having a pressure regulator where the desired pressure to the operated is set.\r\n\r\nHere a variable pressure regulator is adopted. Through a variety of direction control value are available, a hand operated solenoid Valve with control unit is applied. The solenoid valve used here is 5 ports, 3 positions. There are two exhaust ports, two outlet ports and one inlet port. In two extreme positions only the directions can be changed while the Centro ore is a neutral position and no physical changes are incurred. The 2 outlet ports are connected to an actuator (Cylinder). The pneumatic activates is a double acting, single rod cylinder. The cylinder output is coupled to further purpose. The piston end has an air horning effect to prevent sudden thrust at extreme ends.\r\nPRINCIPLES OF WORKING\r\n\r\n \tThe compressed air from the compressor reaches the solenoid valve. The solenoid valve changes the direction of flow according to the signals from the timing device.\r\n \tThe compressed air pass through the solenoid valve and it is admitted into the front end of the cylinder block. The air pushes the piston for the cutting stroke.\r\n \tAt the end of the cutting stroke air from the solenoid valve reaches the rear end of the cylinder block. The pressure remains the same but the area is less due to the presence of piston rod. This exerts greater pressure on the piston, pushing it at a faster rate thus enabling faster return stroke.\r\n\r\nThe non-return valve is fixed to the hydraulic cylinders two side (Four numbers).\r\nThe stroke length of the piston can be changed by making suitable adjustment in\u00a0the timer.\r\nAPPLICATIONS\r\n\r\n \tSince the Pneumatic water Pump is more efficient it is used for pumping the water or oil mostly.\r\n \tDomestic Applications\r\n \tIndustrial Applications\r\n\r\nADVANTAGES\r\nEven if all the other pumps are similar in use the Pneumatic water pump is more advantageous than the other pumps.\r\n1. This is of compact in size\r\n2. Less Maintenance is enough\r\n3. The oil or water pumped is of higher pressure\r\n4. Quite running and smooth operation is achieved.\r\n5. Higher efficiency\r\n6. Full efficient positive displacement pump\r\n7. Effective working principle\r\n8. It does not have any Prime mover, like electric motor related to the unit.\r\n9. As the air is freely available, we can utilize the air to pumping the water and hence it is economical.\r\n10. Today also there is great scarcity of electricity. In this study an innovative concept of Generating Electricity from moving vehicles is presented i.e. Road Power Generator by Using Flip Plate Mechanism. Producing electricity from a Road power generator is a new concept that is undergoing research. The number of vehicles on road is increasing rapidly and if we convert some of the kinetic energy of these vehicle into the rotational motion of generator then we can produce considerable amount of electricity, this is the main concept of this project. Today our whole life style is dependent on electricity. With the increasing population the use of electric power is also increasing. But we know that the resources to generate electricity are limited, and this has lead to the energy crisis. During this scenario we need to generate electricity from the things used in day-to-day life[6]. In this project the speed breakers present on roads are used to generate electricity. As we know that vehicles on road are increasing day by day which will help us to generate electricity as these vehicles pass through the speed breakers? This electricity generated can be used for different purpose such as lighting of signals and streetlights on road etc.\r\n\r\nSYSTEM OVERVIEW:\u00a0\r\n\r\n\u00a0 The principle of the electric power generation using sliding mechanism is very simple. It is based on the same principle as in the case of electricity generation in case of hydroelectric power plant, thermal electric power plant, nuclear power plant, geothermal energy, wind energy, tidal energy etc. In all of the above power plant mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy. In this setup also mechanical energy is converted into electrical power using a D.C. generator. Here the vertical motion of the top of the sliding plate is converted into the rotational motion, which in turn rotates the generator and generates electricity.\r\nWORKING PRINCIPLE\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nROAD POWER GENERATION (RPG) BY SLIDING MECHANISM\r\n\r\n\r\nRoad Power Generation (RPG) is a system design to capture waste and kinetic energy from all vehicles. This device converts the kinetic energy of the vehicles into electric energy. This is done by moving plate installed on the road, this plate captured very small movement from the road surfaces and it transferred to a key way flywheel system. From hundreds of wheel lies a single flywheel having used to driving machinery. The RPG included the method of driving one flywheel to another, once it reached predetermining velocity. The RPG flywheel system has been developed to achieve large amount of moment of inertia in relatively small space. Sliding plates are mounted on the shaft which is attached to the frame via bearing. Spring arrangement is made for flexible sliding motion of sliding plates when vehicles are moving on the road. \u00a0Frame is installed under the road. And the shaft rod is connected to sprocket. This sprocket wills converts sliding motion into rotary motion. This sprocket arrangement is connected to the gear arrangement. Gear is mounted on the D.C generator. As wheel of the vehicle reaches upper most position of the plate, plates get slide through guide; simultaneously shaft moves sliding provide torque to sprocket. The sprocket transmitted this torque to shaft. Shaft is supported by two bearings attached on wall of frame. The shaft having gears and flywheel arrangement on shaft through one way bearing. This arrangement functions to enhance rotation of flywheel for small motion of shaft. The bigger gear has coupled with smaller gear mounted on the D.C. generator shaft. The d. c. Generator converts the rotation of smaller gear into electricity.\r\n\r\nAPPLICATIONS\r\nPower generation using speed breaker system can be used in most of the places such as:\r\n\u00a01. This technique can be used in all highways.\r\n\u00a02. This technique can be used in all roadways Speed brake.\u00a0\r\n3. This mechanism of generating of electricity can be placed on the actual speed breaker of the roads.\u00a0\r\n4. The power is Generated when the vehicles pass through it. Which in can be stored in the battery.\r\n\u00a05. This power can be used in many Places after using the inverter, which enhances in the voltage from 12 volts to 230 volts.\r\n\u00a06. It can be installed at toll booths, bus stands, airports and railways parking zone electricity generated by road power generation.\r\n\r\nCONCLUSION\r\nRoad Power Generation is a new type of unconventional source of energy. This uses wasted energy of moving vehicles. It converts kinetic energy developed from moving vehicles to electric energy. RPG is possible answer for battery charging station and also for the lightning of the street light.
