For convenience in working and pouring, the entire mould is made in the foundry floor or in a bed of sand above floor level. Moulding box is not necessary and the upper surface of the mould is open to air. After proper levelling the pattern is pressed in the sand bed for making mould. Pouring basin is made at one end of the mould, and the overflow channel cut at the exact height from the bottom face of the mould for giving necessary thickness.\r\n\r\nBedded-in method\r\nIn this method, the pattern is hammered down or pressed to bed it into the sand of the foundry floor or in a drag filled partially with sand to form the mould cavity. The working temperature will increases because there will be internal friction. \r\n\r\n3. The consumption of power will increase\r\n\r\n If the viscosity of the oil is lesser than recommended then, \r\n\r\n1. The internal and external leakage will increase \r\n\r\n2. It cannot lubricate properly and will lead to rapid wear of the moving parts.\r\n\r\noil properties\r\n\r\n2. Viscosity Index: \r\n\r\nThis value shows how temperature affects the viscosity of oil. The viscosity of the oil decreases with increase in temperature and vice versa. The rate of change of viscosity with temperature is indicated on an arbitrary scale called viscosity index (VI). The lower the viscosity index, the greater the variation in viscosity with changes in temperature and vice versa.\r\n\r\n3. Oxidation Stability: \r\n\r\nThe most important property of an hydraulic oil is its oxidation stability. Oxidation is caused by a chemical reaction between the oxygen of the dissolved air and the oil. The oxidation of the oil creates impurities like sludge, insoluble gum and soluble acidic products. The soluble acidic products cause corrosion and insoluble products make the operation sluggish. \r\n\r\n4. Demulsibility: \r\n\r\nThe ability of a hydraulic fluid to separate rapidly from moisture and successfully resist emulsification is known as Demulsibility. If oil emulsifies with water the emulsion will promote the destruction of lubricating value and sealant properties. Highly refined oils are basically water resistance by nature. \r\n\r\n5. Lubricity: \r\n\r\nWear results in increase clearance which leads to all sorts of operational difficulties including fall of efficiency. At the time of selecting a hydraulic oil care must be taken to select one which will be able to lubricate the moving parts efficiently. \r\n\r\n6. Rust Prevention: \r\n\r\nThe moisture entering into the hydraulic system with air causes the parts made ferrous materials to rust. This rust if passed through the precision made pumps and valves may scratch the nicely polished surfaces. So additives named inhibitors are added to the oil to keep the moisture away from the surface. \r\n\r\n7. Pour Point: \r\n\r\nThe temperature at which oil will clot is referred to as the pour point i.e. the lowest temperature at which the oil is able to flow easily. It is of great importance in cold countries where the system is exposed to very low temperature. \r\n\r\n8. Flash Point and Fire Point: \r\n\r\nFlash point is the temperature at which a liquid gives off vapour in sufficient quantity to ignite momentarily or flash when a flame is applied. It also houses the mechanism for steering the vehicle to absorb shocks due to road surface variations.\r\n\u00a0Functions of Front Axle\r\n1. It turns the front wheel easily.\r\n2. It provides a cushioning effect though a spring.\r\n3. It takes the weight of front vehicle.\r\n4. It provides steering action.\r\nS. The spring transmits cushion effect to the vehicle.\r\n6. It controls the ride through shock absorber.\r\n7. It takes the braking system.\r\n8. It transmits power to the front wheels in case of four wheel drive.\r\n9. It carries both the hub and wheels\r\nConstruction and Components of Front Axle\r\nAxle beam is a major part of the front axle. It is used to transmit the vehicle weight to the front wheel through the spring. A typical front axle shown in Figure 4.31 elaborates the front axle components with steering linkage.\r\n\r\n front axle components with steering linkages\r\n\r\nThe ends of the axle beam are shaped in such way to assemble the stub axle. The ends of the axle beam are shaped either as a yoke or plain surface with drilled hole to hold a swivel pin connecting the stub axle portion of the assembly. The wheels are connected on stub axles.\r\nThe inclined steering arms are located to track rod ends. The third steering arm is connected to the drag link. The steering linkage is connected by the drag link to the drop arm of the steering box. The main axle beam is attached to stub axles by kingpins. The front road wheels are connected on these stub axles.\r\nThe components of the front axle are axle beam, stub axle, swivel pin and track load.\r\n\r\n1. Axle beam:\r\n\r\nAxle beams are made by drop forging of steel having 0.4% carbon or 1-3% nickel steel. The front axle beam is formed into l-section in the centre portion. The ends are made into either circular or elliptical. l-section construction carries bending loads caused by the load of\r\nthe vehicle and torque by braking of wheels. The centre portion of the front axle is provided a downward sweep to maintain the chassis height low. This axle beam is already hinged with stub axles. Springs are mounted on the axle beam at equi distance from its centre known Springs pads or seats.\r\n\r\n axle beam\r\n\r\n2. Kingpin or Swivel pin:\r\n\r\nThe steering spindle and steering knuckle assemblies are pinned at the ends of axle beam in order to permit wheels to be turned by (he steering gear. This pin is known as kingpin or steering knuckle pin. It is also called swivel pins. The pins are made of good quality case\r\nhardened steels used to secure the stub axle to the axle beam. It is exactly located and locked by cotter pins in position.\r\n\r\n3. Track rod:\r\n\r\nThe two stub axles arms of the front axle are connected with ends of a track rod through knuckle or ball joints known as track rod ends. The connection is done by screws to ensure adjustments. In the stub axle, left hand and right hand threads are formed at each end. Toe-in\r\nis increased by lengthening the rod and it is decreased by shortening the same.\r\n\r\n4. Pull and push rod or drag link:\r\n\r\nPull and push rod also called drag link is connected between steering arm of the front axle and drop arm of the steering assemble. But the cross-section is tubular. Spring loaded ball sockets are provided at each end. One end is connected to the steering arm of the stub axle\r\nwhereas the other end is connected to the steering drop arm.\r\n\r\nTypes of Front Axles\r\n\r\nThere are two types of the front axles based on the rotation as follows.\r\n1. Live front axle\r\n2. Dead front axle.\r\n\r\n different type of front axle\r\n\r\nGenerally, the front axle is a dead axle. In heavy vehicles and most of cars, the front axle is a live axle. These types of axle are used in modern cars and heavier vehicles. The front axles are called as dead axles when they do not rotate but live axles transmit power to rear wheels. A live front axle also transmits the driving power to front wheels having different swiveling mechanisms. The dead front axle has enough rigidity and strength to transmit the weight of the vehicle from swings to front wheels.\r\n\r\nThere are two types of the front axles based on the axle beam as follows.\r\nI.
