Out of the various approaches developed, one of them was an approach to the design of mechanical parts by treating them as combinations of simple building blocks like cylinders and cuboids. Such solid modelers or volume modelers can hold complete unambiguous representations of the geometry of a wide range of solid objects. The completeness images of a shape and automation of the process of interference checking. The model can also serve as means of geometric input for finite element analysis or even manufacturing tasks such as the generation of instructions for numerically controlled machining.

Read more : 3D modelling softwares questions and answers for interview
Definition of a Solid Model
A solid model of an object is a more complete representation than its surface (wireframe) model. It provides more topological information in addition to the geometrical information which helps to represent the solid unambiguously.

3d solid modelling
Application of Solid Models
1. Graphics: generating drawings, surface and solid models
2. Design: Mass property calculation, interference analysis, finite element modeling, kinematics and mechanism analysis, animation, etc.
3. Manufacturing: Tool path generation and verification, process planning, dimension inspection, tolerance and surface finish.
4. Component Assembly: Application to robotics and flexible manufacturing: Assembly planning, vision algorithm, kinematics and dynamics driven by solid models.

Difference between 2-D and 3-D model

difference between 2d models and 3d wireframe models
Solid Modeling Methods
Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG or C-Rep)

Constructive Solid geometry is one of the two most popular and widely used approaches to create the solid models of the objects.
In a constructive solid geometry approach, a solid model of an object is created by using the three-dimensional geometric entities, known as primitives.
These primitives can be combined by a mathematical set of Boolean operations to create the solid.
In a constructive solid geometry (CSG) approach, two or more primitives are combined by a Boolean operations to create a desired model.
The Boolean operations are used are: union (ᴜ or +), intersection (I) and difference (-)

Pure Primitives

In a primitive intancing approach, all the objects that have the same topology but different geometry are grouped into a family called generic primitive.
The primitives are defined in terms of a parameter group. For example, a block primitive is defined by parameters: height(H), width(W) and depth(D).
By inputting the values of parameters defining the primitive, the model can be generated.
In addition to the basic primitives, the library of generic primitives(shapes) which are commonly used is created.
The generic primitive can be called from the library by its assigned name and it can be created by inputting the values of parameters

pure primitives

Boundary Representation(B-Rep)

In addition to the CSG approach, the boundary representation(B-rep) is the another popular and widely used approach to create the solid models of the objects.

Any physical object can be considered to be bounded by a set of faces. In a boundary representation(B-rep) approach, a solid model of an object is created by using a set of faces. Each face is bounded by the edges and each edge is bounded by the vertices.

More Resources /articles
CAD Software | CAD Tutorials
Computer integrated manufacturing Notes , Articles , Interview Que and Ans
Mechanical Subjectwise Basic Concept Notes ,Articles
CAD / CAM Projects List - Abstract , Report Download

What is 3D Solid Modelling | Solid Modeling Methods
@type":"Person
{"@type":"ImageObject
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Organization
Learn Mechanical Engineering
@type":"ImageObject

link to AutoCAD Basic Interface – AutoCAD Window Explained

AutoCAD Basic Interface – AutoCAD Window Explained

AutoCAD Basic Interface - AutoCAD Window Explained

Developed and marketed by Autodesk, Inc. AutoCAD was first released in December 1982
— having been purchased a year prior in its original form by Autodesk founder John Walker. The software is currently marketed in its eighteenth generation.
HOW TO START AUTOCAD
If you’ve already installed AutoCAD and are ready to jump in and take a look, proceed with the following steps to launch the program:
1. Choose Start a All Programs a Autodesk a AutoCAD a AutoCAD 2014. You can also double-click the AutoCAD 2014 icon on your Windows Desktop.
2. The AutoCAD window displays a blank default document named Drawing1.dwg. Usersmay see the Sheet Set Manager palette to the left of the AutoCAD window. AutoCAD users may see the Info palette to the left of the AutoCAD window.

Read more : Autocad mechanical practice drawings pdf free Download
The AutoCAD Window
The AutoCAD program window is divided into several parts:

1. Application menu
2. Access toolbar
3. Info enter
4. Ribbon
5. Drawing tabs
6. Drawing area
7. UCS icon (User Coordinate System icon)
8. Viewport Controls
9. View Cube
10. Navigation bar
11. Command window
12. Status bar

AUTOCAD basic Interface - AutoCAD Window

Figure shows a typical layout of the AutoCAD program window. You can organize the AutoCAD window into any arrangement you want and save it as a workspace. You can save and recall a workspace at any time using the Workspace Switching tool in the Quick Access toolbar. The default workspace in Figure 2.2 is called the Drafting & Annotation workspace and is one of several workspaces built into AutoCAD.

Application Menu:

The Application menu offers tools to help you manage your AutoCAD files. It is basically the File pull-down menu from previous versions of AutoCAD. Try it out to see how it works:

1. Click the Application menu icon in the upper-left corner of the AutoCAD window. A list of options appears.
2. Move the cursor slowly down the list of options in the left column. As you highlight the Options, additional options appear in a column to the right.
3. Highlight the Export option to see the various formats available for export.

Drawing Area:

The drawing area covers the major portion of the screen. In this area, you can draw the objects and use the commands. To draw the objects, you need to define the coordinate points, which can be selected by using your pointing device. The position of the pointing device is represented on the screen by the cursor. The window also has the standard windows buttons such as close, minimize, scroll bar etc on the top right corner.

Command Window:

As mentioned, at the bottom of the screen, just above the status bar, is a small horizontal window called the Command window. Here, AutoCAD displays responses to your input while you’re using a command. By default, it shows one line of text. This line shows the current
responses to your command input as well as command options.

UCS Icon:

In the lower-left corner of the drawing area, you see an L-shaped line. This is the User Coordinate System (UCS) icon, which tells you your orientation in the drawing. This icon becomes helpful as you start to work with complex 2D drawings and 3D models. The X and Y
indicate the x and y-axes of your drawing.

Ribbon:

The most prominent feature in the AutoCAD window, besides the drawing area, is the Ribbon. This is where you’ll be selecting tools to draw, edit, or perform other functions. The Ribbon contains a set of panels representing groups of tools and features.

Navigation bar:

The navigation bar is displayed in the drawing area and contains navigation tools,

View Cube:

View cube is available on the top right corner of the drawing area and is used to switch between the standard and isometric views or roll the current view.

More Resources /articles
CAD Software | CAD Tutorials
Computer integrated manufacturing Notes , Articles , Interview Que and Ans
CAD / CAM Projects List - Abstract , Report Download
Structural analysis and Design 3d Model Projects
New Mechanical Projects 2020 ( All Projects Post Index List )

AutoCAD Basic Interface – AutoCAD Window Explained
@type":"Person
{"@type":"ImageObject
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Organization
Learn Mechanical Engineering
@type":"ImageObject

link to CAD System Hardware | CAD Computer Parts

CAD System Hardware | CAD Computer Parts

CAD System Hardware | CAD Computer Parts

The term “hardware” is used to cover all those pieces of equipment which are used to implement computer programs. These includes the computer with its memory and CPU, means of storing programs on disk or magnetic tape, the display screens, various devices for inputting instructions to the computer i.e., keyboards, etc. and output devices which can give “hard copy”, i.e., printers and plotters. Hardware consists of the graphics workstations, graphics input and output devices. Computer software include: the operating system which controls the basic house-keeping operations in the computer, software packages used for geometric modeling, and application software for design analysis and synthesis.

Read more : What is CAD | Types Of CAD | Computer Aided Design
Input/output devices
Input and output devices
Input Devices:
Keyboard :

The Computer keyboard is used to enter text information into the computer, as when you type the contents of a report. The keyboard can also be used to type commands directing the computer to perform certain actions.

Keypad:

Most laptop computers today have a touch pad pointing device. You move the onscreen cursor by sliding your finger along the surface of the key pad.

Digitizer:

Digitizer is defined as device for converting analogue signals into digital signals or to convert data to digital form for use in a computer. It is a term used by the American speaking countries and mostly used by physicists.

Trackball:

The trackball is sort of like an upside-down mouse, with the ball located on top. You use your fingers to roll the trackball and internal rollers sense the motion which is transmitted to the computer.

Joystick:

Joysticks and other game controllers can also be connected to a computer as pointing devices. They are generally used for playing games and not for controlling the onscreen cursor in productivity software.

Tablet:

A tablet consists of an electronic writing area and a special “pen” that works with it. Graphics tablets allows artists to create graphical images with motions and actions similar to using more traditional drawing tools.

Mouse:

The Mouse pointing device sits on your work surface and is moved with your hand. In order mice, a ball in the bottom of the mouse rolls on the surface as you move the mouse, and internal rollers sense the ball movement and transmit the information to the computer via the cord of the mouse.

Optical Mouse:

A Cordless or wireless mouse communicates with the computer via radio waves.

Output devices:
Monitor:

Monitor commonly called as Visual Display Unit (VDU) is the main output device of a computer. It forms images from tiny dots, called pixels, that are arranged in a rectangular form. The sharpness of the image depends upon the number of the pixels.

Printers:

Printer is the most important output device, which is used to print information on paper.

Speakers:

Computer speakers, or multimedia speakers, are speakers external to a computer, that disable the lower fidelity built-in speaker.

Projector:

An output device that can take the display of a computer screen and project a large version of it onto a flat surface. Well, the best thing is you could launch a weapon thousands of miles away. This leaves no reason why the military of every nation won’t keenly research on it.

Missiles :-

The word missile comes from the Latin verb mittere, which means – “to send” ! Basically, a missile is a self-propelled guided munition system. The first missiles were developed by Nazi Germany in WWII. These were simply radio controlled by the operator & were only built in small numbers.

So here we will be looking into the main systems of a missile i.e guidance system, flight controlling, propulsion & about warheads. Lets get to the first one –

How are missiles guided to their target ?

Missiles can be guided & targeted in a number of ways. The most common method is using some form of radiation such as infrared, laser beams, radio waves. The radiation may be emerging out of an engine or radio waves from a radar station. In case of fighter jets, the missile follows the heat signatures of the engine or the heat released through the nozzle & in case of radar, the missiles follow the radar waves itself(an echo; return signal). These methods are called fire-&-forget as they don’t need any further assistance or guidance to follow their target. A human operator can also steer the missile by using his computer. Another method is to guide the missiles using visible light. One can imagine this as a person flying a RC helicopter of drone.

missile parts

How do missiles change their directions OR how does the flight system of missiles work ?

To steer or maneuver the missile, the flight system uses the information from the guidance system & accordingly adjusts its thrust & other components. One way of maneuvering is thrust vectoring.
Trust Vector Control(TVC) is the ability of an aircraft to manipulate the direction of it’s thrust through nozzle. Therefore TVC are also used to change the direction of missiles.
Other way of guiding missiles is through aerodynamics i.e by adjusting wings & fins(tail). Some missiles are also equipped with gyroscopes which are powered by batteries & sometimes help the missile to tilt rapidly.
Missile Classification :
missile classification
How are missiles propelled ?
Here comes the engine section . Missiles generally use rocket & jet engines for their propulsion. As missiles often have multiple engine stages, they use rocket engines for OR a rocket booster for launching(as more energy is required to overcome gravity & its own weight in the beginning) & later jet engine is used for further flight. Either solid type of fuel or liquid propellant (for larger missiles) is used to run the rocket engine & generally turbojet engines are used for the 2nd stage for flight.
Warheads :-
Missiles generally have one or more explosive warheads.
The warheads of a missile provide its primary destructive power (many missiles have extensive secondary destructive power due To the high kinetic energy of the weapon and unburnt fuel that may be on board).
Other types of warheads include nuclear weapons, chemical or radiological weapons.
Warheadless missiles are often used for testing and training purposes.[Source]

More Resources /articles
Robotics and Automation - Notes , articles , Interview Que & Ans
Industrial Engineering Notes , Articles , Interview Que & Ans
Mechatronics System Notes , article , Interview Que and Ans
New Mechanical Projects 2020 ( All Projects Post Index List )

How do missiles work ? | Targeting, Guidance & Propulsion
@type":"Person
{"@type":"ImageObject
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Organization
Learn Mechanical Engineering
@type":"ImageObject

link to Automobile Engineering MCQ | Objective Question and Answers Part 6

Automobile Engineering MCQ | Objective Question and Answers Part 6

Automobile Engineering MCQ | Objective Question and Answers Part 6
