Off-road vehicles have enthusiastic followers because of their many purposes and un-matched versatility. Several types of motorsports involve racing various models of off-road vehicles. With the growing Indian economy, there is emerging population of rich and wealthy people hungry for recreational activities and growing devoted fans of motorsports.\r\n\r\n2. Problem Statement\r\nCurrent off-road vehicles in the market offer performance and entertainment to the Indian customers interested in the motorsport; however, they do not offer minimum safety features in order to prevent the drivers from harm, due to common tipping and collision accidents.\r\n\r\nObjectives\r\n\r\n \tTo complete the design, to specifications, of the vehicle in one week and with a $100USD budget.\r\n \tTo complete the procurement and fabrication of the vehicle in two months and with a $4,900USD budget.\r\n \tTo design and configure the vehicle with a roll cage structure that includes an ergonomic seat and harness arrangement, which will limit the exposure of the driver to injuries.\r\n \tTo design a vehicle that will accommodate the main systems: engine, transmission, suspension, braking, electric, etc., while providing stability and rollover resistance.\r\n \tTo provide a comfortable ride through the design of suspension and breaking systems, capable of matching performance to those recreational vehicles in the Indian market.\r\n \tTo select the vehicle engine and transmission systems, capable of delivering enough power and torque to drive at a range of 55 to 70 mph, climb hills, and effectively run through muddy roads.\r\n \tTo provide the following off-road vehicle characteristics: practicality, fun-to-drive, versatility, and durability.\r\n \tTo ensure quality through extensive testing of procured parts, in-house assemblies, and actual vehicle operation.\r\n\r\n chassis\r\n\r\nProposed Approach\r\nConsidering the Indian market and the demand for the safer recreational vehicles, the company has decided to launch a comfortable, safe to drive, single-seated off-road vehicle. One of the main focuses for the fabrication of the proposed off-road vehicle is to have a sturdy, balanced roll cage and a reliable suspension; therefore, the team has focused mainly on the design of the roll cage and suspension. The other subsystems are procured according to the requirements and modified keeping different constraints in mind. There are mainly two deliverables for this project: design and fabrication. The following work break down structure shows the two main deliverables, along with two levels of sub-deliverables. The last level of sub-deliverables contains the proposed work packages. The water wheel rotates with the energy of flowing water and thus omits the use of any kind of fuel. A water wheel consists of a large wheel basically made of wood or metal, and it consists of a number of blades or buckets arranged on the outer rim forming the driving surface. Water wheels have been used basically for agricultural purpose, lifting of water to a greater height since ancient times.\r\n\r\nTypes of Water Wheel\r\n2. Overshot water wheel\r\n3. Breast shot water wheel\r\n4. Undershot water wheel\r\nSPIRAL PUMP\r\nA spiral pump is basically used to pump water from a lower head to a higher head region. This pump uses a rotating pipe coil to pump water. Spiral pump is considered to be created in 1746 by H.A. Wirtz, of Switzerland. Wirtz invented the spiral pump to provide water to a higher head.\r\n\r\nWorking Principle of A Spiral Pump\r\n\r\nThe spiral tubes are fixed to the wheel so that the spiral pipes rotate, as the wheel itself rotates. The water collector connected to the outermost end of the spiral tube gulps in a good quantity of water and delivers this into the spiral tube as it rises above. This core of water passes through the spiral followed by a core of air as the wheel rotates. A new core of water is formed on every revolution, and a new core of air. Thus a series of cores of water and air are formed within each spiral pipe as the wheel rotates. Both spiral tubes deliver their water and air into the axle of the wheel and there it is led off through a water seal to a static rising pipe, which delivers water to the header tank. As the wheel revolves a pressure head develops within each coil of the spiral tube, water in the rising coils being higher than in the descending coils. These cores of water in the spiral tube compress the air between them as they travel around the spirals and both water and air are expelled under pressure into the axle. The flow of water up the static rising pipe is also accelerated by the compressed air escaping and expanding from the outlet at the axle of the wheel. Our main objective was to design a spiral tube water wheel pump where a head up to 20 ft. can be obtained. In the current project, a spiral tube water wheel pump, of a 3 meter diameter water wheel and a 1.5 meter diameter spiral tubeis designed and fabricated on the bank of the Bhogdoi River to pump water to the nearby areas to obtain the head of 20 ft.\r\n\r\nSpiral Tube Water Wheel\r\n\r\nThe spiral tube water wheel is a modified form of water wheel where spiral tubes are used instead of buckets. The spiral tube wheel is run by the gear mechanism, the water wheel rotates due to the flow of the river water along with the help of blades which helps in running\r\nthe spiral tube wheel. The spiral tube is designed for a certain height and certain discharge and has a diameter of 1.5m.\r\n\r\nThe main parts of the spiral tube wheel are\r\n\r\n \tHollow Shaft\r\n \tSpoke\r\n \tSpiral Tube\r\n \tRotating Joint\r\n \tScoop\r\n\r\nHollow shaft: \r\n\r\nIt acts as a supporting device and it helps in rotating the spiral wheel. Water collected by the spiral tube is discharge at the outlet with help of hollow shaft,\r\n\r\nSpiral tube: \r\n\r\nIt is a long tube coiled eccentrically on the hollow shaft which collects water at each rotation.\r\n\r\nScoop: \r\n\r\nScoop is typically made from a larger diameter pipe and can be used to vary the amount of water taken in with each revolution. This machine has vast application is Pakistan and Asia. The basic motivation of selecting this project was to solve the problem of farmers in transplanting rice seedlings by providing a facility of fast and economical transplantation. A basic structure was designed using dynamic study, strength of materials, sprocket chain mechanisms, applied and allowable stress analysis. We have used Creo pro and Solidworks software applications for modeling, simulation and stress analysis. Through farms and farm machinery institute visits we were able to understand the problem and work done so far on this machine more deeply and also the methods and techniques used to manufacture agriculture machinery.\r\nFabrication of parts was done using different tools e.g. press machine, grinder, welding plant, lathe, shaper and gas cutter. Choice of material relayed upon the strength required and material available. Cost analysis is done on the basis of CAD model and material selection. That means that the state variables, such as pressure, temperature, velocity of combustion gases, etc., that describe the condition in the combustion zone, vary periodically with time. Pulse combustion is a very old technology. The phenomenon of combustion-driven oscillations was first observed in the year 1777, subsequently\r\nexplained by Lord Rayleigh in the year 1878, and used in a variety of applications around the turn of the Century.\r\nPULSE JET ENGINE\r\nA pulse jet engine is a type of jet engine in which combustion occurs in pulses. Pulsejet engines can be made with few or no moving parts, and are capable of running statically. Pulse jet engines are a lightweight form of jet propulsion, but usually have a poor compression ratio, and hence give a low specific impulse. Pulsejet is an unsteady propulsive device with its basic components being the inlet, combustion chamber, valve and valve head assembly and a tailpipe.\r\n\r\npulse combustion operation\r\nTYPES OF PULSE JET ENGINES\r\nThere are two types of pulse jet engines: those with valves and those without. The ones with valves allow air to come in through the intake valve and exit through the exhaust valve after combustion takes place. Pulse jet engines without valves, however, use their own design as a valve system and often allow exhaust gases to exit from both the intake and exhaust pipes, although the engine is usually designed so that most of the exhaust gases exit through the exhaust pipe.\r\n\r\nA. Valved Pulsejet Engine\r\n\r\nValved engines use a mechanical valve to control the flow of expanding exhaust, forcing the hot gas to go out of the back of the engine through the tailpipe only, and allow fresh air and more fuel to enter through the intake. The valved pulsejet comprises of a intake with a one-way valve arrangement. The valves prevent the explosive gas of the ignited fuel mixture in the combustion chamber from exiting and disrupting the intake airflow, although with all practical valved pulsejets there is some 'blowback' while running statically and at low speed as the valves cannot close fast enough to stop all the gas from exiting the intake.\r\n\r\nB. Valveless Pulsejet Engine\r\n\r\nThe valveless pulse jet engine operates on the same principle, but the 'valve' is the engine's geometry. Fuel as a gas or liquid vapor is either mixed with the air in the intake or directly injected into the combustion chamber. Starting the engine usually requires forced air and an ignition method such as a spark plug for the fuel-air mix. With modern manufactured engine designs, almost any design can be made to be 'self-starting' by providing the engine with fuel and an ignition spark, starting the engine with no compressed air. Once running, the engine only requires input of fuel to maintain a self sustaining combustion cycle.\r\nAPPLICATION OF PULSEJET ENGINE\r\nPulse jet engines have been used in many functional jets; they can also be used for a variety of other applications such as:\r\n\r\nGround Applications:\r\n\r\n1) Water heating,\r\n2) Biomass fuel conversion,\r\n3) Heat generators and\r\nCONCLUSIONS AND FUTURE STUDY\r\nAs we knew that valveless pulsejet engines are easy to build and operate but they produce a lot of noise during its operation, we identified the need to reduce the noise levels.\r\nIn order to further improve on the pulsejet research, several things can be done during the testing phase that would enhance the results. A pressure transducer that measures a pressure differential of 30 psi which would be compared with theoretical results to see how close to optimum the pulsejet is performing.\r\nAdditionally, further research in the effects of optimum fuel to air ratios and maximizing flow into the inlets could potentially show improvements in thrust and efficiency within the engine. Potentially something such as gasoline or Jet A fuel could be an alternate fuel source to the pulse jet and with acceptable fuel injection, these fuels could allow for greater thrust from the engine and overall lighter setup that could be used on a unmanned air vehicle or RC plane.\r\nFUTURE STUDY\r\nIn Future they might be used in any of the ground applications efficiently so they are non-pollutant and eco-friendly engines. The fuels which are used for the operation of these engines are also cheap and can be helpful in all the needs.
