This machine is a multipurpose machine.\r\n\r\nHacksaws are used to cut thin and soft metals. The milling shaft is used to milling operation by replacing the hacksaw frame. The operation of the unit is simplified to a few simple operations involving a cylinder block and piston arrangement.\r\n\r\nThere are numerous types of milling machines in Engineering field, which are used to fulfill the requirements. \u00a0We are interested to introduce pneumatic system in especially in milling machine and also milling operation. The main function of Pneumatic milling is to cut thin and soft metals by pneumatic power.\r\n\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nThe word \u2018pneuma\u2019 comes from Greek and means breather wind. The word pneumatics is the study of air movement and its phenomena is derived from the word pneuma. Today pneumatics is mainly understood to means the application of air as a working medium in industry especially the driving and controlling of machines and equipment.\r\n\r\nPneumatics has for some considerable time between used for carrying out the simplest mechanical tasks in more recent times has played a more important role in the development of pneumatic technology for automation.\r\n\r\nAUTOMATIC GEAR MILLING MACHINE USING \u00a0PROXIMITY SENSOR\r\n\r\n\r\nSince pneumatic circuit plays a vital role in this device, it is very necessary to explain the working of this circuit. Initially starting with air compresses, its function is to compress air from a low inlet pressure (usually atmospheric) to a higher pressure level. \u00a0This is an accomplished by reducing the volume of the air.\r\nWORKING PRINCIPLE\r\n\r\nAir compressors are generally positive displacement units and are either of the reciprocating piston type or the rotary screw or rotary vane types. \u00a0The air compressor used here is a typically small sized, two-stage compressor unit. \u00a0It also consists of a compressed air tank, electric rotor and pulley drive, pressure controls and instruments for quick hook up and use. \u00a0The stored air from compressor is passed through an air fitter where the compressed air is filtered from the fine dust particles. \u00a0However, before the suction of air into compressor a filter process take place, but not sufficient to operate in the circuit here the filter is used. Then having a pressure regulator where the desired pressure to the operated is set. \u00a0Here a variable pressure regulator is adopted.\r\n\r\nThrough a variety of direction control value are available, a hand operated solenoid Valve with control unit is applied. The solenoid valve used here is 5 ports, 3 positions. \u00a0There are two exhaust ports, two outlet ports and one inlet port. \u00a0In two extreme positions only the directions can be changed while the Centro ore is a neutral position and no physical changes are incurred.\r\n\r\nThe 2 outlet ports are connected to an actuator (Cylinder). \u00a0The pneumatic activates is a double acting, single rod cylinder. \u00a0The cylinder output is coupled to further purpose. \u00a0The piston end has an air horning effect to prevent sudden thrust at extreme ends.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nPRINCIPLES OF WORKING\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n \tThe compressed air from the compressor reaches the solenoid valve. \u00a0The solenoid valve changes the direction of flow according to the signals from the timing device.\r\n \tThe compressed air pass through the solenoid valve and it is admitted into the front end of the cylinder block. \u00a0The air pushes the piston for the spring end milling stroke. \u00a0At the end of the spring end milling stroke air from the solenoid valve reaches the rear end of the cylinder block.\r\n \tThe pressure remains the same but the area is less due to the presence of piston rod. \u00a0This exerts greater pressure on the piston, pushing it at a faster rate thus enabling faster return stroke.\r\n \tThe stroke length of the piston can be changed by making suitable adjustment in the timer.\r\n\r\nADVANTAGES\r\n\r\n \tThere is no need of giving feed during every cut due to the presence of weight.\r\n \tThe milling\/milling speed can be varied according to our needs by adjusting the timer.\r\n \tIt is portable\r\n \tIt does not have any Prime mover, like electric motor related to the unit.\r\n \tAs the air is freely available, we can utilize the air to cut the metal and hence it is economical.\r\n \tSimple in construction than mechanical hacksaw and grinder\r\n \tIt is a compact one\r\n \tLess Maintenance\r\n\r\nLIMITATIONS\r\n\r\n \tOnly smaller size and soft metal can be cut\r\n \tIt is costlier than the mechanical hacksaw because of compressor unit.\r\n \tLess efficiency when compressed to mechanical device.\r\n\r\nAPPLICATIONS\r\n\r\n1. For the first step of designing, all the related problems are listed and understand. Then, the specifications, criteria and evaluation of the solutions are developed.\r\nThis including choosing the most suitable operational working principals for the hydraulic ram pump (hydram), outline of the theoretical background behind the\r\noperation and its details calculations, which are being referred to the concept and theory entitles to Fluid Mechanics. This is followed by the details drawing of\r\nthe hydraulic ram pump by using the SOLIDWORKS software. From the calculation performed, the hydraulic ram pump designed with radius of 0.1m\r\nand length of 0.5m has high and reasonable efficiency. Its flow rate to the delivery tank is determined to be 0.00069m3\/s and required about 20 days and 3\r\nhours to fill completely the tank at a height of 20 m from river flow .\r\n\r\nPROBLEM STATEMENT\r\n\r\nIn this project, we are required to design a hydraulic ram pump to fill a water tank at a height of 20m from river flow. The conditions are as follows:\r\nRiver Water (source): Depth = 0.5m Wide = 1.5m Flowrate = 120m \/sec\r\nTank (to be filled): Volume = 1200m3.\r\n\r\nTheory on Hydraulic Ramp (Hydram)\u00a0\r\n\r\nPump\r\nEnergy Cars, airplanes, light bulb, water pumps, computers, the human body have all something in common: they need energy to work. This energy can come\r\nfrom many sources such as electricity, fuel, manpower, food. Different technologies are used to transform one source of energy to another. For\r\nexample, car engines transform the chemical energy of the fuel into mechanical energy allowing wheels to rotate. Another example related to water supply\r\nprojects is electric pumps: they use electricity to transform electrical energy into potential energy of the lifted water. The potential energy is the energy of every\r\nobject due to its altitude. The object needs another source of energy to be lifted and will lose its potential energy if it falls. It however thrives in areas of high rainfall. Being a shade loving species, arecanut always does well when grown as a mixed crop with fruit trees. Raising a banana shade crop is even better as this supplements farmer\u2019s income. The majority of arecanut are harvested by climbing the tree and cutting the nuts down by hand. This process may seem simple; however, it is actually quite dangerous. In response, there is a genuine need to develop a device.\r\n\r\nObjectives of the project\r\nIn an attempt to assist the climbers, an arecanut tree climbing device has been designed to meets\r\nthe following goals\r\n\r\n\r\n \tIt will be controlled from the ground.\r\n \tBoth men and women will be able to operate the device.\r\n \tThe arecanut tree climber will be able to harvest faster than present methods.\r\n\r\n\r\nMechanization of conventional methods used in harvesting the crops is very much essential to assist the farmer. The aim is to build a prototype that can successfully climb an arecanut tree of\r\nvariable diameters and height.\r\n\r\nHere we are designing and fabricating motorized arecanut tree climber. The tree climber has a base on which the rollers are fitted using self aligning bearings at a distance as the diameter of a standard areca tree. On one extreme end of the base, gear box and above that the motor is mounted. The power from the motor to the rollers is transmitted by using sprocket and chain drive. To obtain the required speed of the rollers a reduction gear box is used in between the motor and the rollers. The machine is placed around the tree and clamped to it using a swivel opening on one side of the base. Due to the weight of the motor, gear box and some extra mass concentrated on one end of the base the machine locks itself to the tree. Now the motor is switched ON to drive the rollers. When the rollers rotate gripping the tree, the whole setup is lifted along the length of the tree. After reaching the required height the motor is switched OFF. By having suitable auxiliary\u00a0equipment\u00a0for spraying pesticides, plucking the\u00a0nuts on the setup\u00a0and suitable controlling methods for those\u00a0equipment\u00a0the required job can be\u00a0performed. The current difficulties were analyzed. Interviews were held with users. A comparative bench marking study was done on similar processes used in other similar extraction processes. Along with this an ergonomic simulation was made to understand the user difficulties and manufacturing methods to get an overview to provide solution to the user to suit their requirement.\u00a0\r\nConcepts were generated keeping benchmarked product in view. Five concepts were generated with different functions and operating processes for coconut fiber extraction machine. Final concept was selected by considering the users\u2019 operating environment and maintenance, which could be used in small scale coir industries and in the farm sector.
