This paper will share the need, requirement and application of lapping during the reconditioning of valve. This paper will explore the current working condition of lapping machine in valve industry. What are the difficulties they are facing during the valve reconditioning related to lapping, will be disscussed. Current set up and the changes required in this model are suggested with the proposed model.\r\n\r\nINTRODUCTION \r\n\r\nLapping is a micro finishing operation which is required to require getting a mirror like surface finish on the meting component. It provides a good strength to joint formed. Lapping has been used extensively in the manufacture of optical mirrors and lenses, ceramics, hard disk drive, semi-conductor wafers, valve seats, ball bearings, and, and many more parts. Several factors need to be considered during the process of lapping. This includes factors such as type of machine, condition of the lap plate surface, speed of the lap plate, type of abrasive, type of carrier fluid, slurry concentration, slurry flow rate, size and shape of abrasive, material of the lap plate, rigidity of the lap plate, applied force on the work piece, time of operation and duration between the two consecutive instances of application of fresh abrasive slurry.\r\n\r\nNEED OF LAPPING FOR VALVE COMPONENT \r\n\r\nValve lapping is a essential part of maintenance work that often interrupt production work. Repairing leaking valve in industry is a laborious operation involving extended downtime, production losses and substantial unwanted cost. The given figure shows different parts of a gate valve.\r\n\r\nCOMPONENT THAT REQUIRE LAPPING\r\n\r\nWedge of a valve : \r\n\r\nThis is a wedge of a valve which is under continuous pressure of fluid flow. The sizes of the wedge varies as per the size of valve for example 2\u201d,4\u201d ,6\u201d etc. valves . To close the valve these wedge are mesh with the seat ring. These wedge requires lapping after 60-70 openings of valve. To get a leak proof component these portion requires lapping.\r\n\r\nSeat Ring :\u00a0\r\n\r\nWedge or disc meshes with the seat ring of valve. It is actually a ring made up of stainless steel , bronze etc. material. The shape of seat ring goes on changing with continuous use. It becomes tapered and get leaked so it requires lapping. Size of seat ring also varies as per the size of valve. Small size seat rings are either press fitted or they may be welded to sustain fluid pressure.\r\n\r\nDEVELOPMENT OF LAPPING MACHINE \r\n\r\nA visit to an industry it is being observed that they were performing lapping operation on a set up which was developed by them. They fixed the lapping tool to the conventional lapping machine which is fixed. They fixed the valve on a vice and perform lapping on the valves. Observing the operation we are trying to propose on model which will be portable, can be handled y one person and it will reduce the set up time also.\r\n\r\nPROPOSED MODEL OF LAPPING MACHINE \r\n\r\nA high torque drilling machine is used which will be generating a shaft speed of around 240 rpm. Through this shaft rpm is transferred to reduction gear box which will reduce it to 80-100 rpm. This speed is best for performing low speed lapping operation . This gear box is mounted on holding plate which has holes on it. This plate will help us to hold the set up on frame for lapping wedge or hold the set up on body of valve. Shaft through that gear box is connected with the lapping plate which is made up of cast iron . A guide is provided at the centre to keep lap steady. The distance between seat ring and body of valve will vary according the size of valve. So length of shaft will be according to the size of valve.\r\n\r\nlapping machine\r\n\r\nABRASIVE MATERIAL USED FOR LAPPING \r\n\r\nThe most commonly used abrasive materials for lapping of valves seats are alumina and silicon carbide. It is the objective of this research to obtain sufficient data by lapping. Three types of abrasives: (1) garnet, (2) alun-dum (aluminum oxide), and (3) crystolon (silicon carbide) (4) CARBURANDM (silicon carbide) were used to lap the work pieces. Generally, the high peaks are abraded by coarse grains of average diameter about 80 mm (F80: coarse lapping), the average height s peak s by grain size between 40 and 20 mm (F40 and F20: average lapping ) and the low height s peaks by fine grain size of 7 mm (F7: fine lapping ) are available for lapping. We will perform coarse lapping and fine lapping on valve component.\r\n\r\nCONCLUSION \r\n\r\nThe above research work and the proposed model can provide benefit in the lapping of valve component. Model will provide portability and reduce the set up time for lapping to some extent. The paper shows the importance of lapping operation in a valve industry. It show the size and type of abrasive used for valve lapping. As compared to the available machine for lapping, this proposed model will be the cheaper model. It will prove to be an economical model. Basically, all those ways can be divided into two basic categories: transformed for use elsewhere or utilized directly \u2013 direct \u2013 and involving more than one transformation to reach a usable form \u2013 indirect. The Solar Chimney Power Plant (SCPP) is part of the solar thermal group of indirect solar conversion technologies. More specifically, a natural phenomenon concerning the utilization of the thermal solar energy involves the earth surface heating and consequently the adjacent air heating by the sun light. This warm air expands causing an upward buoyancy force promoting the flow of air that composes the earth atmosphere. Continuous 24 hours-operations is guaranteed by placing tight water-filled tubes under the roof. The water heats up during the daytime and emits its heat at night. These tubes are filled only once, no further water is needed. In the middle of the roof is a vertical chimney with large air inlets at its base. The joint between the roof and the chimney base is airtight. As hot air is lighter then cold air it rises up the chimney. Thus even a small number of solar chimneys can replace a large nuclear power station. \r\n\r\nSolar chimneys operate simply and have a number of other advantages:\r\n\r\n \tThe collector can use all solar radiation, both direct and diffused. This is crucial for tropical countries where the sky is frequently overcast. The other major large scale solarthermal power plants, parabolic through and central receiver systems, which apply concentrators and therefore can use only direct radiation, are at a disadvantage there.\r\n \tDue to the heat storage system the solar chimney will operate 24h on pure solar energy. The water tubes lying under the glass roof absorb part of the radiated energy during the day and release it into the collector at night. Thus solar chimneys produce electricity at night as well.\r\n \tSolar chimneys are particularly reliable and not liable to break down, in comparison with other solar generating plants. Turbines, transmission and generator - subject to a steady flow of air - are the plant's only moving parts. This simple and robust structure guarantees operation that needs little maintenance and of course no combustible fuel.\r\n \tUnlike conventional power stations (and also other solar-thermal power station types), solar chimneys do not need cooling water. This is a key advantage in the many sunny countries that already have major problems with drinking water.\r\n\r\nDisadvantages Of Solar Hybrid Chimney Power Plant:\r\n\r\n \tSome estimates say that the cost of generating electricity from a solar chimney is 5 times more than from a gas turbine. The project named titled as AUTOMATIC STAMPING MACHINE FOR POST CARD, the purpose of this project is not only to minimize the human effort but also to minimize the time required for this action with the help of conveyor belt and rack and pinion mechanism. This machine utilizes electricity and gives a last impression on card as an output. The design and fabrication of AUTOMATIC STAMPING MACHINE FOR POSTCARD consist of rack and pinion mechanism, conveyor belt, dc motor, shaft and bearing. When the current supply is given to system the dc motor start as well as it rotates the conveyor. Here we use the relay as a switch, when the card comes to the stamping arm, relay stop the dc motor and actuate the rack and pinion mechanism, as it moves in linear direction the card get stamp. This machine can be used in post office, school and colleges for stamping on ID card. It is also use in many industries. By changing the rubber stamp this machine can be used for giving the any shape and size of mark on card, like logos, signature, etc. the design provide comfort for the operator. This machine works efficiently and satisfactorily.\r\n\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nIn modern era, the world is developing rapidly in day to day life of the human machine; system is changing as becoming vast rapidly. For small things to big ones are becoming advance in our day to day life and taking it under consideration, but we looking till a day the stamping action is done manually. In this system it takes plenty of time to work and also energetic. In order to reduce such problems, taking time criteria under consideration, we thought to accept the challenge to make a machine which can stamp on cards automatically. Some of the functions we had successfully implemented on machine that it can auto stamp on cards by using conveyor belt and stamping machine. It consists of conveyor belt, electric motor, stamping arm. It leaves a lasting impression of any shape and size. To make it effective and successful many mechanical application are used systematically. The system consumes electric supply as a source of energy. When the current supply ON the current goes to the system through step down transformer it converts the high power of energy into low power up to 12v. The current voltage goes to dc motor through capacitor to relay and motor get start, it convert electrical energy into rotational energy. This rotational energy transferred to the roller.\r\n\r\nAs conveyor belt mounted on roller it also rotated and the card placed on conveyor goes in the forward. When the card comes under the stamp arm presses the relay switch, at this situation the relay breaks the circuit from the dc motor as well as it actuates the rack and pinion. Because of linear motion of pinion the last impression gives on card. As dc motor has capacity of 65 rpm this process goes continue and the cards on conveyor belt get stamped.\r\n\r\nCONSTRUCTION\r\nAfter design work, the actual manufacturing of various parts is started. Numbers of various manufacturing processes are used\r\nto give the final assembly.\r\n\r\nFabrication of\u00a0 AUTOMATIC STAMPING MACHINE FOR POSTCARD \r\n\r\nconsist of following\r\n\r\n \tIt consists of conveyor belt, electric motor, stamping arm and rack &amp; pinion gear mechanism.\r\n \tIt leaves a lasting impression of any shape and size.\r\n \tFirst of we connect the wire with power supply board to transformer.\r\n \tThis transformer is Step Down type of transformer.This converts the high power of current into low power.\r\n \tThe output connection of transformer is connected to capacitor filter.The output of capacitor filter is connected to the relay.\r\n \tThe main function of relay is as amplifying a digital signal, switching a large amount of power with a small operating power.\r\n \tIt gives output supply to the both of machines.\r\n \tThe first connection goes to the dc motor &amp; other goes to the stamping machine.\r\n \tThe electrical dc motor is connected to the drive roller with 65 rpm.\r\n \tIt gives the motion to the roller in clockwise direction.The roller is fixed on metal rod between two end corners of metal body.\r\n \tThe rod is fixed in the small ball bearing for reducing the friction &amp; provides smoothness to the operation.\r\n \tThe cotter pin is provided for stable the rod to their places.Both rollers are connected with conveyor belt for travelling of component from one place to another. The rack &amp; pinion mechanism used for stamping on the letter.
