This project involves fabrication and implementation of automated human following trolley for material handling. This trolley can automatically detect the person using the sensors added on the trolley. As the person moves ahead the trolley automatically moves behind the person following the person. This is done using intelligent control algorithm of the trolley.\r\n\r\nINTRODUCTION \r\n\r\nMaterial handling plays a very important role in the industrial economy. Mass production depends mainly on conveying system and expansions is mass production invariably follow developments in method of handling the materials involved. The material handling is a system or combination of methods, facilities, labor and equipment for moving, packaging and storing of materials to meet specific objectives.\r\n\r\n The present day material handling systems can be classified into following as given below. \r\n\r\n1. Conveyor systems:\r\n\r\nThese follow horizontal, vertical or compound motions through the air, over fixed routes by gravity or by power. Conveying equipment is a group of machines which move loads in a continuous flow and which may have no lifting gear. \r\n\r\n2. Transportation and Transferring Equipment: \r\n\r\n(a)Transportation Equipment: These follow horizontal motion over fixed or variable, level or nearly level routes by pulling or pushing on surface riding vehicles. \r\n\r\n(b) Transferring Equipment: These follow horizontal, inclined or declined motions through the air over fixed routes or limited areas, with intermittent motions. \r\n\r\n3. Hoisting equipment (Lifting, lowering or elevating equipment): \r\n\r\n(a) Lifting and lowering equipment: These are used in the operation of lifting a load, handling them in suspension, lowering and placing them at required locations. \r\n\r\n(b) Elevating Equipment: Vertical motion over fixed vertical or steep inclined routes with continuous or intermittent motion is followed by this equipment\u2019s. Hoisting equipment is a group of machines with lifting gear intended for moving loads mainly in batches.\r\n\r\nSTANDARD COMPONENTS USED IN THIS PROJECT\r\n\r\n The components used in the project are as given below: \r\n\r\n1. Microcontroller: \r\n\r\nA microcontroller is a self-contained system with peripherals, memory and a processor that can be used as an embedded system for processing signals. Most programmable microcontrollers that are used today are embedded in other consumer products or machinery including phones, peripherals, automobiles and household appliances for computer systems. Due to that, another name for a microcontroller is \"embedded controller.\" \r\n\r\n2. DC Geared motors for drive train: \r\n\r\nThe drive train of the human following trolley includes the DC Motor with the reduction gear boxes. The drive train of a motor vehicle is the group of components that deliver power to the driving wheels which will facilitate for the navigation of the vehicle on industry floor. This excludes the engine or motor that generates the power. \r\n\r\n3. The motor driver: \r\n\r\nThe motor driver used is 18V 5 Amp DC motor H- bridge. The H- bridge IC is used to provide the directional control to the DC motors as well as to control the speed of the DC motors. This helps the trolley to navigate in all direction including reverse. The specifications of the DC motor driver are: \r\n\r\n4. The Ultrasonic sensors for smart human sensing:\r\n\r\nThe project uses ultrasonic sensor for sensing and following the human. There are three sensors used on this project which follow the human. The three sensors are arranged in such a way that they can be used to trace the human. There were different sensors available in market for this particular task.\r\n\r\n SMART OPERATOR FOLLOWING TROLLEY FOR MATERIAL HANDLING INDUSTRIES\r\n\r\nOPERATION PRINCIPLE \r\n\r\nvoltage is applied to piezoelectric ceramics, mechanical distortion is generated according to the voltage and frequency. On the other hand, when vibration is applied to piezoelectric ceramics, an electric charge is produced. By applying this principle, when an electric signal is added to a vibrator, constructed of 2 sheets of piezoelectric ceramics or a sheet of piezoelectric ceramics and a metal sheet, an electric signal is radiated by flexure vibration. As a reverse effect, when an ultrasonic vibration is added to the vibrator, an electric signal is produced. The main\r\nobjective of this project is to create and develop a Path Planning Mobile Robot able to avoid obstacles in its path and reach a target designated position from its starting point utilizing 4 wheel-based rover body, sensors, linear motors and microcontrollers. The paper describes the design process of the AGR development, from the initiation of idea to development of algorithms, to virtual prototype development of AGR mechanisms and controller board, to fabrication, to mobility, obstacle avoidance and path planning test. Two methods of path planning are presented, using compass bearing in undetermined space and predetermined path. Obstacle avoidance and path planning algorithms has been tested using the completed design of AGR body.\r\n\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nRobotics is known as a new revolution to the entity of beings that varies according to its uses. In modern day environments, robotics and automation are involved in almost every industrial activity and conveniently improve\r\nthe efficiency, productivity and reliability of a system.\r\nRobotics is also implemented in medical practice, construction, outer-space exploration, household assistance, mobile transportation and quite recently, underwater exploration.\r\n\r\nMETHODS OF DETECTION AND SENSOR SYSTEMS AS FEEDBACK ANALYSIS\r\nWith sensors, robots are said to be able to obtain vision, sense of touch, balance, and even hearing. According to their tasks and application, robots are given the appropriate sensors that function as the feedback systems in a controller.\r\nAutonomous Guided Robot (AGR) systems are classified as rover based robotics that require vision-type and touch sensors. The AGR should be able to maneuver and counteract with the environment using sensors to detect the\u00a0obstacles around, remember its current position and calculate a new path to take. The sensors identified for the construction of the AGR in this project are ultrasonic proximity detectors, and electronic magnetic compass. The function of the proximity detectors is to detect any objects surrounding the robot within a range specified. The proximity detectors are placed on the front, left and right face of the robot to ensure wider sonar-like detection. An electronic magnetic compass detects the strongest magnetic flux generation and generates that as the North Pole. Rolling operation can be done on hand or power operated rolling machines. In forming round spring shapes a gradual curve is to be put in the metal rather than sharp bends. The gap between the springs can be regulated by proper arrangement.\r\n\r\nThe lock nut is used to fixing the spring wire to the rolling shaft. The spring wire is supplied by a tare is called spring wire tare. This tare is fixed to the stand by two end bearings. The tare is rotated\r\nfreely during the time of spring rolling operation. The single phase induction motor is coupled with the spur gear arrangement by pulleys. The motor is rotated by switch on the power supply of single phase. Before switch on the induction motor, the spring wire is locked to the lock nut in the spring rolling shaft. The spring wire is supply by a spring wire tare. The tare is fixed to the frame stand by two end bearings, so that it will run freely according to the speed of the spring rolling shaft.\r\nThe spring rolling shaft is rotated when the single phase induction motor switched ON.
