The whole engineering process can be broadly classified in two groups; forward engineering and reverse engineering.

Forward engineering is the traditional process of moving from high-level abstractions and logical designs to the physical implementation of a system.

Definition Of Reverse Engineering .

The process of duplicating an existing component, subassembly, or product, without the aid of drawings, documentation, or computer model is known as reverse engineering.

Forward vs Reverse Engineering

Reverse engineering can be mainly viewed as the process of analyzing a system to identify its components and their interrelationships, to create representations of it in another form or a higher level of abstraction. An important reason for application of reverse engineering is reduction of product development times. In the intensely competitive global market, manufacturers are constantly seeking new ways to shorten lead-times to market a new product. For example, injection-molding companies must drastically reduce the tool and die development times. By using reverse engineering, a three-dimensional product or model can be quickly captured in digital form, re-modeled, and exported for rapid prototyping/tooling or rapid manufacturing.

Some of the important reasons for the for reverse engineering of a product or part are;

 The original manufacturer of a product no longer produces a product.
 There is inadequate documentation of the original design.
 The original manufacturer no longer exists, but a customer needs the product.
 The original design documentation has been lost or never existed.
 Some bad features of a product need to be designed out. For example, excessive wear might indicate where a product should be improved.
 To strengthen the good features of a product based on long-term usage of the product.
 To analyze the good and bad features of competitors' product.
 To explore new avenues to improve product performance and features.
 To gain competitive benchmarking methods to understand competitor's products and develop better products.
 The original CAD model is not sufficient to support modifications or current manufacturing methods.
 To update obsolete materials or antiquated manufacturing processes with more current, less-expensive technologies.

Reverse Engineering Process

a. Prediction

 What is the purpose of this product?
 How does it work?
 What market was it designed to appeal to?
 List some of the design objectives for the product.
 List some of the constraints that may have influenced the design.

b. Observation

 How do you think it works?
 How does it meet design objectives (overall)?
 Why is it designed the way it is?

c. Disassemble

 How does it work?
 How is it made?
 How many parts?
 How many moving parts?
 Any surprises?

d. Analyze

Carefully examine and analyze subsystems (i.e. structural, mechanical, and electrical) and develop annotated sketches that include measurements and notes on components, system design, safety, and controls.

e. Test

 Carefully reassemble the product.
 Operate the device and record observations about its performance in terms of functionality (operational and ergonomic) and projected durability.

f. Documentation

 Inferred design goals
 Inferred constraints
 Design (functionality, form (geometry), and materials)
 Schematic diagrams
 Lists (materials, components, critical components, flaws, successes, etc.)
 Identify any refinements that might enhance the product’s usefulness.
 Upgrades and changes

Reverse Engineering Tools

 Angr- A binary analysis framework focusing on both static and dynamic symbolic analysis.
 Apktool- A tool for reverse engineering Android apk files.
 BinNavi - A tool to assist vulnerability researchers who look for vulnerabilities in disassembled code.
 Binwalk- A tool for analyzing and extracting firmware images.
 Capstone - A lightweight multi-platform, multi-architecture disassembly framework.
 dex2jar- Tools to work with android .dex and java .class files.
 dotPeek- A tool to decompile .NET assembly.
 Frida- A JavaScript injector to explore native applications on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android.
 ILSpy -A tool to browse and decompile .NET assembly to intermediate language.
 Java Decompiler- A tool to decompile and analyze Java byte code.
 Miasm- A reverse engineering framework in Python.
 Pin- A dynamic binary instrumentation framework.
 QEMU-A generic and open source machine emulator and virtualizer.
 Radare- A portable reversing framework.
 Snowman- A tool to decompile native code to C/C++.
Reverse Engineering – Reverse Engineering Tools
@type":"Person
{"@type":"ImageObject
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Organization
Learn Mechanical Engineering
@type":"ImageObject

link to Advantages and Disadvantages of Just-in-Time (JIT) Manufacturing

Advantages and Disadvantages of Just-in-Time (JIT) Manufacturing

Advantages and Disadvantages of Just-in-Time (JIT) Manufacturing

At the same time, they have also attempted to keep everyone as busy as possible producing output so as to maximize “efficiency” and (hopefully) reduce costs. Unfortunately, this approach has a number of major drawbacks including large inventories, long production times, high defect rates, production obsolescence, inability to meet delivery schedules, and (ironically) high costs. Non of this is obvious -if it were, companies would long ago have abandoned this approach.

JIT is a production and inventory control system in which materials are purchased and units are produced only as needed to meet actual customer demand. In just in time manufacturing system inventories are reduced to the minimum and in some cases they are zero.

JIT works in the three types of inventories:

a) Raw materials: inventories provide insurance in case suppliers are late with deliveries.

b) Work in process: inventories are maintained in case a work station is unable to operate due to a breakdown or other reason.

c) Finished goods: inventories are maintained to accommodate unanticipated fluctuations in demand.

just in time

Just in Time Advantages

 Right quantity at right time
 Higher quality- the removal of large batch manufacturing and reduction in handling often results in significant quality improvements; often in the region of 25% or more.
 Improve customer service
 Minimal inventory and waste- one of the main aims with any JIT implementation is to improve stock turns and the amount of stock being held. Personal experience has seen reductions of more than 90% stock in some industries. Along with the reduction in the stock come many other associated benefits.
 Reduced space requirements-by removing large amounts of stock from the system and moving processes closer together we will often see a significant reduction in the amount of floor space being used. Results from 100’s of projects run within companies in the UK through the Manufacturing Advisory Service saw average reductions of 33% for simple 5 day implementation projects.
 Reduced lead time- one of the most significantly impacted areas is that of the time it takes for products to flow through the process. Instead of weeks or months most JIT implementations result in lead times of hours or a few days.
 Increase equipment utilization
 Simplicity- the use of simple pull systems such as Kanban, even with your suppliers, can significantly reduce the need for any form of complex planning. With many implementations the only planning is the final shipping process.
 More workforce participation- one requirement of JIT as with most other aspects of Lean manufacturing is that employees are heavily involved in the design and application of your system.

 Continuous improvement
 Better problem solving
 Reduce costs

Just in Time Limitation

 Requires high degree of delegation
 Requires change in philosophy and culture
 Vulnerability in breakdown
 Work only in regular products
 Requires highly reliable n flexible suppliers
 Requires a super coordination between workforce and managers
Advantages and Disadvantages of Just-in-Time (JIT) Manufacturing
@type":"Person
{"@type":"ImageObject
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Organization
Learn Mechanical Engineering
@type":"ImageObject

link to Lean Manufacturing Definition-Lean Manufacturing Principles

Lean Manufacturing Definition-Lean Manufacturing Principles

Lean Manufacturing Definition-Lean Manufacturing Principles

Waste is defined as any activity that does not add value from the customer’s perspective. According to research conducted by the Lean Enterprise Research Centre (LERC), fully 60% of production activities in a typical manufacturing operation are waste – they add no value at all for the customer.
These types of waste are categorized as:
Muda: Additional activity during manufacturing that’s not needed
Muri: Waste created from overburden in manufacturing processes
Mura: Waste created from unevenness in the manufacturing process

Lean manufacturing is a performance-based process used in manufacturing organizations to increase competitive advantage. The basics of lean manufacturing employ continuous improvement processes to focus on the elimination of waste or non value added steps within an organization. The challenge to organizations utilizing lean manufacturing is to create a culture that will create and sustain long-term commitment from top management through the entire workforce.

GOAL OF LEAN MANUFACTURING:
1.Cost Reduction by Elimination of Waste
2.Creating Conditions to Guarantee Product Quality
3.Quality First
4.Ensuring Quality of all Products
5.Building In Quality at Each Process
6.Inspection Work
7.The Added Value of Repairs
8.Awareness of Waste
9. Customer Satisfaction.

lean manufacturing terms
Lean Manufacturing Principles
Lean manufacturing techniques are based on the application of five principles to guide management’s actions toward success:

1. Value: The foundation for the value stream that defines what the customer is willing to pay for. The first step is to recognize what does and does not create value from the customer’s perspective. Any material, process or feature which is not required for creating value from the customer’s perspective is waste and should be eliminated. For example, transporting materials between workstations is waste because it can potentially be eliminated.

2. The Value Stream : The mapping and identifying of all the specific actions required to eliminate the non-value activities from design concept to customer usage.Lean requires an the implementation of very detailed production guidelines, called Standard Work, which clearly state the content, sequence, timing and outcome of all actions by workers. This eliminates variation in the way that workers perform their tasks.

3. Continuous Flow: The elimination of all process stoppages to make the value stream “flow” without interruptions. Lean usually aims for the implementation of a continuous production flow free of bottlenecks, interruption, detours, backflows or waiting. When this is successfully implemented, the production cycle time can be reduced by as much as 90%.

4. Pull Production: The ability to streamline products and processes from concept through customer usage.Also called Just-in-Time (JIT), Pull-production aims to produce only what is needed, when it is needed. Production is pulled by the downstream workstation so that each workstation should only produce what is requested by the next workstation.

5.Perfection : The ability to advocate doing things right the first time through the application of continuous improvement efforts.Lean aims for defects to be eliminated at the source and for quality inspection to be done by the workers as part of the in-line production process.
Lean Manufacturing Definition-Lean Manufacturing Principles
@type":"Person
{"@type":"ImageObject
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Organization
Learn Mechanical Engineering
@type":"ImageObject

link to Fusion 360 Vs Solidworks- Difference Between Fusion 360 and Solidworks

Fusion 360 Vs Solidworks- Difference Between Fusion 360 and Solidworks

Fusion 360 Vs Solidworks- Difference Between Fusion 360 and Solidworks

Below, you'll find the different modes and what they're used for.
Model - Parametric Solid Modeling
Patch - Surface Modeling
Render - Real-time Ray Tracing
Animation - Timeline & Animations
Simulation - Validate & Optimize Designs
CAM - Manufacturing

Fusion 360 is free for hobbyists. For the vast majority of needs, this tool is sufficient. It runs on Windows and Mac.

Laser cutting: You can draw a sketch and directly save it in DXF to make a laser cut.
3D printing: After drawing your 3D part, it is possible to export it in STL to print the piece in 3D.
CAM: Fusion 360 contains a CAM mode that is powerful and free. It is possible to set the movements of the milling machine directly on its 3D model and see a simulation of the cutting (we see the miller's head making its movements).
Sculpt mode: This is a mode that is between CAD and CAD (design-oriented), but with the advantages of being able to switch from one to the other. This mode allows you to draw design pieces by pulling on surfaces to give them the desired shape.
Assembly: If your project contains multiple parts, you can assemble them directly into Fusion 360. It is possible to create fixed assemblies, but also add degrees of freedom, so you can see the movement of your parts virtually.
What Is Solidworks ?
SolidWorks is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) computer program that runs on Microsoft Windows. SolidWorks is published by Dassault Systèmes.

SolidWorks currently markets several versions of the SolidWorks CAD software in addition to eDrawings, a collaboration tool, and DraftSight, a 2D CAD product.

autodesk fusion 360 vs solidworks- difference between fusion 360 vs solidwokrs
Fusion 360 Vs Solidworks- Difference Between Fusion 360 and Solidworks

Fusion 360 Solidworks

Fusion 360 is a cloud-based parametric solid-modeler that offers features to get you from idea to prototype in one single environment.SolidWorks is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) computer program that runs on Microsoft Windows. SolidWorks is published by Dassault Systèmes.

Modeling functionality only. No current sheetmetal and weldmate specific features.Sheet metal and weldmate mode makes design of sheetmetal parts easy and mostly intuitive.

Fusion surfacing is very nice. This is the primary reason I use fusion. It makes surfacing work a lot faster and more intuitive. Solidworks surfacing is a nightmare. It often takes a lot of trial and error to get the desired results.

3D sketching is possible, but it's finnicky at besty and difficult to use. Seems to rely on pre-existing geometry. Solidworks has mature and useful 3D sketching tools.

Hole wizard is ok in Fusion. It takes 2 features, one to make a hole, and another to specify the hole with threads and bores. Would be easier with a 1 step process.Comprehensive options for holes of any variety and purpose. Relatively easy to use.

The built in CAM seems well rounded and is continually being improved. Solidworks can only have this functionality with an expensive add on.

Fusion has 4 pattern tools available. Rectangular, Circle, Mirror, Path. They work fine. Solidworks has 8 different pattern tools available. Linear, Circular, Mirror, Path, Sketch, Table, Fill, Variable. They all work well.

Chain -belt Pattern-Fusion requires you to build a pattern from all instances. Analogous function is not presentChain Pattern- This is a fantastic feature for chains and mechanical belts.

Fusion is less Costly Solidwork is little more costly than Fusion 360

Fusions simulation tools are much easier to use and faster to get results. They possibly may not be as accurate, but I prefer the ease of use. Solidworks simulation tools are only fully available in the premium versions of the products. They are difficult to use and can be frustrating to someone who doesn't often use simulation.

In case of Constructional Geometry, Fusions options are a bit more limited, but still useful.Solidworks makes it easy to create construction geometry where and how you need it.
Fusion 360 Vs Solidworks- Difference Between Fusion 360 and Solidworks
@type":"Person
{"@type":"ImageObject
//www.gunkrazy.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/autodesk-fusion-360-vs-solidworks-difference-between-fusion-360-vs-solidwokrs-min-min-300x168.png
{"@context":"http://schema.org/","@type":"Organization
Learn Mechanical Engineering
@type":"ImageObject

link to Pressure Control Valve- Types , Symbol ,Application

Pressure Control Valve- Types , Symbol ,Application

Pressure Control Valve- Types , Symbol ,Application

A mini jet engine can be broken down into five major sub assemblies, the inlet duct, compressor, combustion chamber, turbine wheel, and exhaust outlet. When the engine is running, air is drawn into the compressor where it is compressed and the pressure is increased. It is then ducted to the combustion chamber where fuel is added and burned. The heat in the combustion chamber causes the air to expand before it exits through a nozzle and drives the power turbine. The turbine drives the compressor by means of a drive shaft. The remaining hot gasses are expelled out the exhaust nozzle. Forcing the large amount of air taken into the engine and expelling it out the exhaust duct at a much higher velocity creates thrust. This is the principle of operation of the mini jet engine. It is a reaction engine.

WORKING OF MINI JET ENGINES :

We are using LPG as fuel because it is very easy to install and there is no need for any injection systems or fuel pumps. LPG is stored in a 2 Kg capacity cylinder. The cylinder is connected to two valves one stop valve and other control valve that regulate the flow of gas. The valve is followed by a high pressure flexible tubes used in gas welding. The other end is connected to the fuel nozzle made from mild steel, which is welded to the combustion chamber.

diagram of design and fabrication mini jet engine
Advantages of Mini Jet Engines :
• Power to the weight ratio of a turbojet is about four times that of a propeller system having reciprocating engine.
• It is simple, easy to maintain and requires lower lubricating oil consumptions. Further more liquid cooling results in reduced frontal area.
• There is no limit to power output which can be obtained from a turbojet while the piston engines have reached almost their peak power and further increased will be at the cost of complexity and greater engine weight and frontal area of aircraft.
• The speed of turbo jet is not limited by the propeller and it can attain higher flight speeds than engine propeller aircrafts.
• Simplicity of design, efficient at supersonic speed ~ Mach 2.

Advantages of LPG as fuel
LPG is clean, high octane, abundant and eco-friendly fuel. Higher energy content, lower CO-2 emission.
