This is even made use in the vehicle to be driven in the dense forests and even in dessert.\r\nPROBLEM DEFINITION\r\nEXISTING MECHANISM\r\n\r\nA differential is a device which is used in vehicles over a few decades and when a vehicle is negotiating a turn, the outside wheel travels a greater distance and turns faster than the inside wheel. The differential is the device transmitting the power to each wheel, allows one wheel to turn faster than the other. It splits the engine torque two ways, allowing each output to spin at a different speed. The differential is found on all modern cars and trucks, and also in many all-wheel-drive (full-time four-wheel-drive) vehicles.\r\n\r\nThese all-wheel-drive vehicles need a differential between each set of drive wheels, and they need one between the front and the back wheels as well, because the front wheels travel a different distance through a turn than the rear wheels. Part-time four-wheel-drive systems don't have a differential between the front and rear wheels; instead, they are locked together so that the front and rear wheels have to turn at the same average speed. This is why these vehicles are hard to turn on concrete when the four-wheel-drive system is engaged.\r\n\r\nWHAT'S A DIFFERENTIAL?\r\n\r\nWhen a vehicle is negotiating a corner, the outside wheel has to travel a grater distance than the inside wheel. Therefore, the outside wheel must turn faster than the inside wheel. The differential is the device within the axle assembly which, in addition to transmitting the power to each axle shaft\/wheel, allows one wheel to turn at a different speed than the other. A conventional open differential sends equal amounts of torque to both axle shafts (top).\r\nIf one wheel spins because of lost traction, it is sustaining zero engine torque, so zero engine torque is also going to the wheel with traction. So to lock the differential we need to connect the two shafts on the either side so that the differential has no effect on the axle. Now to connect the two shafts we use two circular plates on the either sides of the differential. Both are in such a way that they get mated as soon as possible even in their rotation. So when the pneumatic valve is actuated then one of the plates is pushed to the other so that the plates get mated and hence the shafts are connected. So thus the differential is disengaged. To engage the differential again a spring is used to push the plates apart. In our project the above complicated problems are minimized.\r\nWORKING PRINCIPLE\r\nThe compressed air from the compressor is used as the force medium for this operation. One Single acting and double acting cylinder is used in this machine .The air from the compressor enters into the flow control Valve.\r\nAir enters in to the barrel unit through one way and the other way of air enters to the solenoid valve. When air enters to the cylinder 1, due to pressure difference work blank is clamped and when air enters to the other cylinder due to pressure difference drilling operation\r\ntakes place as the drilling head comes down and drills the work piece. Many assumptions and ideas were brought about throughout the following years, but it was not until the 1970\u2019s that Japan and Germany showed interest in it and began researching and designing.\r\n\r\nThe motion of the Maglev train is based purely on magnetism and magnetic fields. This magnetic field is produced by using high-powered electromagnets. By using magnetic fields, the Maglev train can be levitated above its track, or guide way, and propelled forward. Nevertheless, it is still not possible to use this knowledge, together with other material properties, for predicting fracture behaviour in engineering terms with a high degree of confidence. Metallic materials, especially alloys are highly complex. An indication of this complexity is given by the figure below, which shows various microstructural features (not all of which need to be present in a material) and also the two main types of fracture path, transgranular and intergranular. Of fundamental importance is the fact that almost all the structural materials are polycrystalline, i.e. they consist of aggregate of grains, each of which has a particular crystal orientation. The only exceptions are single crystal turbine blades for high performance jet engines.\r\n\r\nMetals fail by two broad classes of mechanisms: Brittle and Ductile failure\r\n\r\nThe Brittle fracture has following characteristics:\r\n\u2022 There is no gross plastic deformation of the material and failure occurs with low energy absorption.\r\n\u2022 The surface of the brittle fracture tends to be perpendicular to the principal tensile stress although other components of stress can be factors.\r\n\u2022 Characteristic crack advance markings frequently point to where the fracture originated.\r\n\u2022 The path the crack follows depends on the material's structure. In metals, transgranular and intergranular cleavage are important. For energy related reasons, a crack will tend to take the path of least resistance.\r\n\r\nThe Ductile fracture has the following characteristics\r\n\r\n\u2022 There is considerable deformation before failure and lot of energy is required compared to ductile failure.\r\n\u2022 The fracture surface is dull and fibrous. The appearance of a ductile fracture at a high magnification is a surface with indentation as if marked by an ice-cream scooper. This surface morphology is appropriately called dimpled\r\n\u2022 Rupture by total necking is very rare because most metals contain second phase particles that act as initiation sites for void. However high purity metals such as copper nickel gold and other very ductile material fail with very high reduction in areas.\r\n\u2022 Most structural material exhibit considerable strain before reaching the tensile or ultimate strength.\r\n\r\ncomparison of stress stain curve of brittle and ductile Material\r\n\r\nMetallurgical Factors affecting Transition Temperature.\r\n\r\nThe shape and position of DBTT curve is important as it determines the transition temperature, which indicates where it is safe to use for the given application.
