India stands second among the largest producer of sunflower in the world. Farmers across India have been following various methods of sunflower cultivation, both traditional and mechanized methods. However, due to high cost of labour and management, many farmers have resorted to mechanized farming. Mechanized farming has indeed given the farmer the advantage of increased quality and production of crops.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAgricultural Project -Sunflower Thresher\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOne among various steps involved the process called \u201cthreshing\u201d where the groundnuts are separated from the plant. Manual process of this step consumes huge number of labour and cost to the farmer thereby reducing his profit. The design process began with product context study where a thorough understanding of the product was made by going through literatures and through discussions with the industry experts. Traveling to different villages and having one to one interview with the farmers with a list of questionnaires was the method adopted for data collection. Also interviewing suburban shops and observations made during the visits gave a clear insight of the rural lifestyle and their expectations. Data collection was followed by different design process like Quality Function Deployment and Mind Mapping were implemented during generation of concept designs. According to the object sensor value, the microcontroller activates the driver circuit as per mentioned in the program. Then it makes the solenoid valve to pass the air from the compressor to the pneumatic cylinder to apply the brake of the wheel which runs by the separate motor. The driver circuit is constructed with transistor which acts as switch to control the relay. The relay output is directly connected to the electromagnetic core which is attached in the Clutch assembly which gets activated immediately after applying the brake. The idea of producing the necessary units in the necessary quantities at the necessary time is described by the short term Just-in-time.\r\nThe implementation of this management philosophy in industries like the automobile industry can bring about a see saw change in both quality &amp; quantity since in a JIT system, underutilized (excess) capacity is used instead of buffer inventories to hedge against problems that may arise.\u00a0\r\nThis seminar gives an over view of the JUST IN TIME technique by considering the TOYOTA PRODUCTION SYSTEM in detail.\r\n\r\n\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\n\r\nJUST IN TIME (JIT) is a management philosophy that strives to eliminate sources of manufacturing waste by producing the right part in the right place at the right time. Waste results from any activity, which adds cost without adding value, such as moving and storing. JIT (also known as stockless production) should improve profits and return on investment by reducing inventory levels (increasing the inventory turnover rate), improving product quality, reducing production and delivery lead times, and reducing other costs (such as those associated with machine setup and equipment breakdown).\u00a0\r\n\r\nThe idea of producing the necessary units in the necessary quantities at the necessary time is described by the short term Just-in-time. Just-in-time means, for example, that in the process of assembling the parts to build a car, the necessary kind of sub-assemblies of the preceding processes should arrive at the product line at the time needed in the necessary quantities. If Just-in-time is realized in the entire firm, then unnecessary inventories in the factory will be completely eliminated, making stores or warehouses unnecessary. The inventory carrying costs will be diminished, and the ratio of capital turnover will be increased.\r\n\r\nELEMENTS OF JIT\r\n\r\nThere are some very important elements in just in time manufacturing which makes it a successful philosophy. \r\n\r\nThey are\r\n\r\n \tAttacking fundamental problems - anything that does not add value to the product\r\n \tDevising systems to identify problems.\r\n \tStriving for simplicity - simpler systems may be easier to understand, easier to manage and less likely to go wrong\r\n \tA product oriented layout - produces less time spent moving of materials and parts.\r\n \tQuality control at source - each worker is responsible for the quality of his or her own output.\r\n \tPoka-yoke - `foolproof' tools, methods, jigs etc. prevent mistakes\r\n \tPreventive maintenance, Total productive maintenance - ensuring machinery and equipment functions perfectly when it is required, and continually improving it.\r\n \tEliminating waste.\r\n\r\n\r\nThere are seven types of waste:\r\n\r\n\r\n1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waste from overproduction.\r\n2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waste of waiting time.\r\n3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Transportation waste.\r\n4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Processing waste.\r\n5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Inventory waste.\r\n6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Unnecessary movement of people.\r\n7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Waste from product defects.\r\n\r\nGood housekeeping - workplace cleanliness and organization.\r\nSet-up time reduction - increases flexibility and allows smaller batches. Ideal batch size is 1item. Multi-process handling - a multi-skilled workforce has greater productivity, flexibility and job satisfaction.\r\nLeveled \/ mixed production - to smooth the flow of products through the factory.\r\nKanbans - simple tools to `pull' products and components through the process.\r\nJidoka (Autonomation) - providing machines with the autonomous capability to use judgement, so workers can do more useful things than standing watching them work.\r\nAndon (trouble lights) - to signal problems to initiate corrective action.\u00a0\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nJust-in-time production\u00a0\r\n\r\nThe idea of producing the necessary units in the necessary quantities at the necessary time is described by the short term Just-in-time. Just-in-time means, for example, that in the process of assembling the parts to build a car, the necessary kind of sub-assemblies of the preceding processes should arrive at the product line at the time needed in the necessary quantities. If Just-in-time is\u00a0realized\u00a0in the entire firm, then unnecessary inventories in the factory will be\u00a0completely eliminated, making stores or warehouses unnecessary. The inventory carrying costs will be diminished, and the ratio of capital turnover will be increased.\u00a0\r\n\r\nHowever, to rely solely on the central planning approach which instructs the production schedules to all processes simultaneously, it is very difficult to\u00a0realize\u00a0Just-in-time in all the processes for a\u00a0product like an automobile, which consists of thousands of parts. Therefore, in Toyota system, it is necessary to look at the production flow conversely; in other words, the people of a certain process go to the preceding process to withdraw the necessary units in the necessary quantities at the necessary time. Then what the preceding process has to do is produce only enough quantities of units to replace those that have been withdrawn.\u00a0\r\n\r\n\r\nSo Toyota\u2019s slogan in manufacturing would be to produce in as small lots as possible with minimum cost as per market needs. If we look at parts that go into an assembly line in an automobile industry like Toyota we find that\u00a0customization\u00a0is maximum at the final stage. For e.g. Customer\u00a0would chose\u00a0color\u00a0seats etc. this happens at the assembly. However at the aggregate\u00a0stage a particular model would have a specific engine, transmission etc. many common parts go into different models. Finally the same steel and pig iron goes into different parts. conditions\r\n \tCarburettor depression is pressure differential in the float chamber and venture throat which causes discharge of fuel into the air stream\r\n \tFlow is controlled by small hole of fuel passage\r\n \tPressure at the throat at the fully open throttle condition lies between 4 and 5 cm of Hg and seldom exceeds 8 cm Hg\r\n \tDrawback of simple carburettor is that it provides too rich and too lean mixture due to vacuum created at the throat is too high and too small which is undesirable.\r\n\r\n\r\nComplete Carburettor:\r\nAdditional systems used with simple carburettor can help the engine to operate at all conditions, which are given below,\r\n\r\n(i) Main metering system:\r\n\r\n\r\n \tProvide constant fuel-air ratio at wide range of speeds and loads.\r\n \tMainly based upon the best economy at full throttle (A\/F ratio about 15.6:1)\r\n\r\n\r\nThe different metering systems are,\r\n\r\nCompensating jet device:-Addition to the main jet, a compensating jet is provided to provide the leanness effect.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nEmulsion tube or air bleeding device:\r\n\r\n\r\n \tMixture correction is done by air bleeding alone\r\n \tIn this arrangement main metering jet is fitted about 25 mm below the petrol level which is called as submerged jet\r\n\r\n\r\nBack suction control or pressure reduction method:\r\n\r\n\r\n \tIn this arrangement large vent line connects the carburettor entrance with the top of the float chamber and another small orifice line is connected with the top of the float chambers with venture throat.\r\n \tIt creates pressure differences according to engine operating conditions\r\n\r\n\r\nAuxiliary valve carburettor:\r\n\r\n\r\n \tValve spring of auxiliary valve lift the valve during increase of engine load which increases the vacuum at venture\r\n \tAllows more admittance more additional air and the mixture is not over rich\r\n\r\n\r\nAuxiliary port carburettor:\r\n\r\n\r\n \tOpening of butterfly allows more air inductance which decreases quantity of fuel drawn\r\n \tUsed in aircraft carburettors\r\n\r\n\r\n(ii) Idling system:\r\n\r\n\r\n \tIdling jet is added for the idling and low load operation which requires rich mixture sof about A\/F ratio 12:1\r\n \tConsists of small fuel line from the float chamber to a point of throttle side\r\n \tGradual opening of throttle may stop the idling jet\r\n\r\n\r\n(iii) Power enrichment or\u00a0economizer\u00a0system:\r\n\r\n\r\n \tThis system provides the richer mixture for maximum power range of operation\r\n \tIt has meter rod economizer of large orifice opening to the main jet as the throttle is opened beyond a certain point\r\n \tRod is tapered or stepped\r\n\r\n\r\n(iv) Acceleration pump system:\r\n\r\n\r\n \tEngine acceleration condition or rapid increase in engine speed may open the throttle rapidly which will not able to provide rich mixture\r\n \tAcceleration pump of spring loaded plunger is used for fuel supply\r\n\r\n\r\n(v) Choke:\r\n\r\n\r\n \tRich mixture is required during cold starting period, at low crancking speed and before the engine warmed up condition\r\n \tButterfly type valve or choke is The motor is used to drive the conveyor. The materials are transferred from one place to another place by using conveyor. In this top of the conveyor, sensors are used to measure the dimension. This system gives smooth operation and smooth movement of the belts to the jobs at required time.\r\n\r\nThis is a very efficient instrument for checking the dimensions like length, breadth, height etc., to be used in modern engineering industries. \u00a0The manual efforts can be completely avoided by using this modern equipment. \u00a0It also reduces the inspection time and manual inspection errors. If the work piece is defective, the pneumatic cylinder placed next to the sensor will be actuated to remove the defective work piece.\u00a0\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nThis is an era of automation where it is broadly defined as replacement of manual effort by mechanical power in all degrees of automation. The operation remains an essential part of the system although with changing demands on physical input as the degree of mechanization is increased.\r\n\r\nAutomation can be achieved through computers, hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, etc., of these sources, pneumatics form an attractive medium for low cost automation. The main advantages of all pneumatic systems are economy and simplicity. A windmill would provide good means for showing visitors how wind energy can be used for water harvesting. That is the main reason for building the windmill. The secondary reason is to use it to pump water to a tank for further use in irrigation. And also interested in a solution for an irrigation system connected to the tank. Synchronous generators are most commonly designed for the charging of storage batteries. The asynchronous generators are typically found in large wind turbines. The generator is then coupled to a common induction motor, which drives a centrifugal pump for water pumping. The essential components of WEWPSs are illustrated.\r\n\r\nWORKING PRINCIPLE:\r\n\r\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The water-pumping windmill is a simple machine that uses mechanical advantage in multiple ways. It\u2019s a direct-drive device that transfers energy via gears, rods, simple valves, and a piston in a cylinder\u2014and uses high torque to move water.\u00a0\r\n\r\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The blades of the windmill wheel catch the wind\u2014just like the sails on a sailboat\u2014which turns the wheel (rotor). The wheel is attached to a shaft by long arms. The shaft has small pinion gears at the other end, inside a gearbox. The pinion gears drive larger bull gears, which move pitman arms. The pitman arms push a sliding yoke up and down, above the bull gears (much like a crankshaft, connecting rod, and piston in a standard vehicle engine). The moving yoke lifts and drops the pump rod to do the work down below. The pump rod goes down the tower through a watertight seal at the top of the well\u2019s drop pipe, and to the pump cylinder, the part that moves the water. The cylinder is attached to the bottom of the drop pipe below the water level, and has a simple piston and two check valves.\r\n\r\nAs the piston rises, water moves up the pipe above it. At the same time, water is sucked through a screen and the lower check valve below the piston, into the lower section of the pump cylinder. When the pump rod reverses and begins to descend, the lower check valve closes and the piston check valve opens. This allows water in the cylinder to pass through, and the water that is trapped above the piston to be pushed up out of the cylinder and ultimately to its final delivery height. One might think of the pump as a cup with a trap door in the bottom that opens when the cup falls and shuts when the cup rises.
